My favorite thing about working with reactive and behaviorally complex animals is how fucking weird and funny they are. I work with a cat who is an “attack on sight” if you make eye contact with her… unless you’re holding a rake. And it specifically has to be a rake, if you’re holding a broom she’ll still attack you (give you one guess as to who was the sacrifice that found that out). But if you’re holding rake? She’ll curl up in your lap purring and making air biscuits. And it’s not like we’re using the rake to block her or anything, we literally just carry the rake with us and as soon as she sees we have a rake she’s purring. But if you walk in there with a broom? You’re fucked.
