'The poems in this collection have been led by the eye and the ear as well as the mind. Like most poets, I read a lot, but I am equally stimulated by other art forms, both ‘serious’ and ‘popular’. Although I have studied to PhD level I don’t tend to approach things from an intellectual point of view, certainly not my poetry. The following is a list – in no particular order – of places, books, writers, fictional characters, songs, puns, radio programmes and texts, which have made an impression on me in one way or another over the last ten years.'
