A day out with Baicang- A falling pair of Wings

A short story of you and Baicang under the Snowfall.

STORY

It’s the first day of winter, your favourite season. Everyone is on a break from work and you have nothing to do on this certain day. As you get up to make yourself some hot chocolate and pancakes for breakfast, you hear a notification on your phone. It’s from your Captain, Captain Baicang. “You do anything today?? If you’re down, let’s hang out and go ice skating together, meet me at my house ,I’ll drive us there😋”. You reply with “sounds fun!! Ill get ready”

You make your way to Baicang’s house. A three minute walking distance from your home. You knock on his door , and he opens it gently. “Look who’s here!!!!” he says enthusiastically. Just looking at his smile would melt the snow from how warm his aura is. Baicang looks at you and pauses. “Wait a second.” Baicang comes back with a scarf and wraps it around your neck. He also puts one around his own neck too. You stand there in silence a bit touched that your captain cares so much about your health.“Can’t let my coworker get sick!, cmon let’s go!!”He grabs your arm gently and you hop into the car.

As Baicang drives , you watch the snowfall and admire how pretty it is. This is actually your first time seeing snowfall, you didn’t always live in this city. Baicang glances at you, he already knows this is your first time because you’ve told him about wanting to see Snow for the first time for quite some time now. You finally arrive there, surprisingly it’s empty. “It’s empty here, have you been here before?” You ask him. “Actually … ahah.. I rented the place out because I know you’re introverted and don’t like crowds … didn’t cost too much.” Baicang looks away a bit shyly and smiles. You look at him feeling even more warm now. “Wow , I didn’t know the Captain who constantly tries to skip work every day , would be so organised with something like this.” You giggle at him. “Hey!!… it’s not skipping .. it’s passing time as a .. Captain.. let’s go on the ice! I brought ice skates.” Baicang hands you a pair, you put them on together and get on to the ice.

As you get on to the ice you watch Baicang struggle.. you hold your laugh in and eventually giggle. “Need any help?” You ask giggling at him.” Uhhh … fine. How will you help me?” Baicang almost trips and you grip his hand , stopping him from his fall. Suddenly he’s staring at you.. he didn’t realise how pretty you were so.. close up?. He suddenly snaps out of it and lets go quickly. “Thanks for saving me.” Suddenly a Butterfly flies past the both of you and lands on Baicang’s nose. “A Butterfly?? … in the snowfall? Huh?” You say confused.” “And why does it like you so much?” Baicang gives you the warmest smile you’ve ever seen , he grabs the Buttefly and puts it on you shoulder. “Ever since I was a kid.. Butterflies would follow me.. even in the Snow. But shhh it’s a secret between you and me… Butterflies are beautiful aren’t they? Like this one?” You stand there as the snow falls past the both of you, Baicang admiring you with the Butterfly on your shoulder.. eventually it flies off and fades away into the light. Baicang gently grips both of your hands, as the snow continues to fall.. that gaze returning.” Wanna know something?… I find Butterflies beautiful.. because to fly , they need a pair of wings. Not one, but two. I feel that energy when I look at you.. you remind me of all the Butterflies I’ve ever encountered.” You stand there, overwhelmed. The silly captain .. is basically confessing to you under the snowfall? You had no idea he had this side to him. He’s never this serious. You grip his hands back and ask him something. “Are you willing to be my pair of wings too?”

*Baicang stands there and brushes a snowflake out of your hair, his cheeks faintly pink now* “I’ll never break your wings.. wings are fragile, I promise to protect your wings for as long as I live.” Baicang suddenly gains confidence and slowly leans forward.. he pecks you on the lips and smiles. Suddenly he spins you around on the ice and eventually he gets the hang of it as he holds your hand and you skate together.

The night eventually comes to an end .. just A Captain , and his colleague finally becoming something more. Falling for each other , the same way the snow falls.
