i added a bunch of books to my to read list which are mostly first books in many trilogies/series and the count is at like 70 right now so... probably triple that provided i like them...

3 Ways to Use the Present Perfect Tense in  Business Situations

Read the following Ideas and come up with  statements of your own which exemplifiy each one of them three situations proposed:

Situation 1:  Talking about Profits, Sales Results, and Work Experience.

We use the present perfect to talk about unfinished actions that started in the past and continue to the present.

In this case, you will find yourself using the present perfect when answering “how long” questions, and describing sales/costs/profits/revenues for a particular period until the present moment.

Examples:

I’ve worked here for five years. Profits have increased by 10% since Mark has been the Brand Manager. Sales have bounced back this month. How long have you worked in the banking sector for?

Situation 2: Talking about Durations of Job Positions and Lengths of Time with a Relation to the Present.

We use the present perfect to describe an unfinished action with ‘Since’ and ‘For’.

We use ‘since’ with a fixed time in the past (2015, 5th May, last year), and we use ‘for’ with a period of time (5 hours, six months, ten years,).

Examples:

We’ve been located here since 1990. He’s been the CEO for 6 months.

Situation 3: Talking about Recent News and Business Updates.

We use the present perfect to talk about something that happened recently.

Often used with “just “,”yet”, “already”, “recently.”

Examples:

The CEO has just quit. I’ve already had my assessment with HR. Have you got the sell-out results back yet? Our stock price has surged recently.

Summary Reading I (Discourse and Authorship in Design Practice) by Kaisa Koisti, 24 Sept 2019 ->made more conscious about acknowledging the concept of authorship. -is there a point of having this discussion if the author is dead already?->we as graphic designers never had the role as a poet had of ownership? ->meta-level of assignment: why is it important to compare ourselves to authors?  ->us designers entering to author scene? -> integrating the concept of author (in literature) to design field -> authorship changing the structure how client interactions is happening (Linda Linko example) (interacting with the designer’s output) -> content is also a form -> bad design : content and design are not related -> graphic designer’s responsibility is to advise the client -> other professions: clients don’t question the professional that much -> question of credibility ->everyone’s got a image of beauty, maybe that is the reason we get criticised more -> design or aesthetic matters are not intellectual property -> everything is math -> can authority be something untraceable to be person or people everything is original <> nothing is original : paradox -> change of industry -> us in this position starting to interact with clients differently ->affected to past generations and unaware of that -> originality related to authorship —> process development, refinement, so on “practise makes perfect” -> designers have to go through these processes originality needs to be acknowledged “it’s ok not to get it”

Summary / some of the topics we had in our discussion • Questioning the author becomes the author (META) • Authority / power • Intellectual property • Trust • Originality... e.g. Blues is all about covering, about how you sing the song, how you deliver it (tulkitseminen, oma tulkinta) / Roger Ebert ’A film is not what it is about, it’s how it is about it.’ Refined, folk tale, nothing is and at the same time everything is original, comes from somewhere • An author must acknowledge responsibility that comes with the authorship • Anonymity • Academic / craft • Knowledge / guts • A designer friend once told me that ‘everything is math – the process for calculating for each of us is just different' :,,D As Amelie puts it: Yet, can’t graphic design be a form of math or science as well? Isn’t every design job a bit like solving an equation based on the client and a multitude of references combined with design principles? Is responsibility/ authorship taken by clearly knowing what you are referencing or can you base it on intuition? Kaisa argued that intuition in itself has a subconscious logic to - there is a reason for everything. Intuition is constructed by us and our own individual experiences. The same applies to truth.

Reading I: Discourse and Authorship in Design Practice

In our discussion about the first readings, we tried to figure out what authorship has to do with our practice as graphic designers. Naturally, we all had our own (vague) idea of this, and the discussion jumped between many different interpretations of the term. We talked about the texts and our insights in terms of authority and power, self valuation and positioning as well as how the form of authority in our field has shifted over time (designers, agencies and trends). We also touched the area on a meta-level, questioning the paradoxical phenomena of critique; how you often become an authority yourself when taking down other authorities.

During our session, there were no disagreements, but neither any unanimous answers. The discussion was however very rewarding, and it was valuable for me to experience in practice how fluctuating interpretations might be, and that no one's point of view is the sole right answer.
