the art in #32 is pretty weird. Elita especially doesn't look good... it's like it's trying to replicate that roughness of the early issues but is afraid to let characters be "ugly" which is somehow worse to me than Mora just smoothing everyone out. like maybe Mora didn't want to give himself carpal tunnel doing all that, or he thought he couldn't make it look good, or whatever, i get it. but to attempt an impression of someone else's art style and end up disregarding such a key aspect of that style's aesthetic appeal is different

it isn't as ugly as Heart of Darkness though. i think if you say that you've forgotten how bad Heart of Darkness looked. i remember it in my nightmares

also why'd they have to shunt Optimus into GI Joe. he was one of my favorite things abt this run

Transformers Vol One

Istg if this is the series that makes me like Optimus Prime (￣ ￣|||)

Absolute standout is the art style by far. I knew the moment I saw it, that I'd fall in love, but some of these panels are so creative, I want to do an art study on it so bad haha.

The Cybertronian cultural insights we're getting are very cool, I can't wait to see the family dynamics they use in more detail. We got a little of that in IDW2 with the mentorship tradition, so I'm excited to see where this goes.

I feel so bad for Soundwave, dealing with his poor Ravenge and still being the only con online with more than two elections to rub together. Ngl tho, Starscream is an unhinged bitch and I love her ( ´ ∀ `)ノ～ ♡

another option is the Matrix changes to suit its bearer. like maybe it's attracted to willpower generally, and the reason it chose Elita and the reason it turned into a sword is because she resorted to violence, because she was that driven by her will to do and become whatever she thought she had to. Optimus just didn't have it in him anymore to meet and exceed that will, so the Matrix left him

why are ppl still saying this or that guy is Dead is Skybound when it's already been clearly established that Megatron is the only one who can kill ppl right now. theyre just in comas and need to be fixed up. theyre literally alive

maybe being corrupted changed the Matrix. not in a "it's still corrupted" way but like, that whole thing made the spirits inside realize they needed to take a different approach. there's smth there abt like the ways war and violence warp culture and society, smth abt what happens when you reach the limits of pacifism, what happens when cultural stories and artifacts dont prepare you for that kind of situation. violence warping ppl is a theme present elsewhere in the comic, like with Starscream and Elita more generally, so why not expand that theme to smth that represents Autobot Culture itself

see i wanted to comment on Elita punching the Matrix and what it means that the Matrix is a weapon once i had full context but the past couple of weeks have just rlly drained me. so here's smth i was thinking of on a better day after reading the forum thread on the leaked pages: Sparkplug Witwicky doesnt necessarily have much power or influence within the Matrix. i think the only reason he was able to help Optimus that one time is bc as a human he's immune to the Cybertronian-based corruption that was spreading through it. so, it makes sense that he isn't brought up. he wasnt "forgotten about."
