Reading Catch Up Post
D.Gray-man Vol. 18-24: I finished the series as it currently stands I just gotta say......the plot has tipped over from "delightfully complicated" to "overly convoluted". And the pacing is just full-speed ahead, it's making the whole thing tedious to read. I haven't been enjoying it and it makes me rather sad and disappointed.
Ouran Highschool Host Club: I started and finished this series and it was....meh. I love the anime and so was at first delighted to finally read the manga. But once it was made clear that Haruhi and Tamaki would be the canon pairing, I lost all interest, tbh. I finished the series so that it was officially out of my tbr stack but it was another disappointing and tedious read for me.
Sandman, Act One: I finished the first act of the Audible Series and it was so goddamn beautiful. I have Act Two downloaded on my phone but I'm in the middle of a different audio book series....it's been killing me!
Sandman, The Comics: I also finished all of the Sandman comics - okay, I should rephrase that: I have finished the main Sandman arc. I have a couple of the short story collections to read still to do. I did read Midnight Days and it was very interesting collection of short comics, including Constantine: Hellblazer, so it was a good read.
Hellboy, The Comics: I have finished everything I can access through my local library databases of the Hellboy series. This and the Books of Magic series are, easily, the next set of comics I really want to collect. The story was beautifully drawn, inked, and colored but that wasn't all - the story itself was just so compelling and interesting, with tie-ins to so many different legends and so much lore. I adored it.
The Way of House Husband: I love this series so much. It's so lighthearted and fun, a little slice of life into the most ridiculous premise....but it works and it works well. I heard the live action based off of the series is also good so I might be checking that out after I'm done with The Untamed.
Turning Point: This was a bland, predictable listen (audio book) and I didn't appreciate the ending. King's Sorcerer: This was such a fun, interesting read. I generally don't read first-person pov books but the magic system had me curious enough to continue on. Over all, it was a quick, interesting read.
The Hobbit: narrated by Andy Serkis, this was SO GOOD. I honesty don't know it I would have been able to read Tolkien but listening to Serkis AMAZING recording was perfection. I really enjoyed it and it reawakened my loved for the fandom.
Neil Gaiman at the End of the Universe: this was such a cute little listen, narrated by the multi-talented Neil Gaiman, it was a delight. A fun little thought experiment delivered perfectly.
Jaws: ugh. This book draggggggged on. If I had been reading it rather then listening to it via audio book, I probably would have ended up skimming and skipping bits. If it isn't the sexist bits or the racist bits, it's the large and unnecessary commentary on Brody's marriage problems. The book honestly was underwhelming for it's "terrifying" and "monstrous" shark. I recommend sticking to the movie.
The Pretty Little Box: underwhelming. I kept waiting for the story or mystery to actually start or for that little detail that reveals everything to come up but nothing.
I'll Be Gone in the Dark: I ADORED this book. Was so good and interesting. So well put together, even though so much had to be put together from notes and outlines or previous articles. It also made me paranoid about checking all my windows and doors at night....lol
Qiye: Another book I LOVE and ADORE. If this book was ever officially translated and published in English, I would pre-order/purchase it without any hesitation. I can't wait till I can read the sequel, even though I know that the sequel has nothing to do with the main couple of Qiye....
Death, the Deluxe Edition: I really enjoyed this collection of comics that feature Death's story in the Sandman universe.
The Fellowship of the Ring: Another listen provided by the voice acting skills of Andy Serkis. Spot on and enjoyable. Even though I've seen all the movies and so I KNEW what was happening next, I still got swept up in the story and was so curious. The scene in Mordor where Gandalf is facing off the Balrog? Gave me literal goose bumps. So good.
