Let me start off by saying: Ready Player One as a book is WAY better than the movie. (In my opinion at least!) 🎮 .⠀ Truthfully, the movie and book are barely recognizable as the same thing. Besides the name and the concept of the OASIS, that’s about as far as similarities go. I saw the movie first and it was a good movie, don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it. But I didn’t love it like I thought I would. I was disappointed. I read the book – LOVED IT – and then saw the movie again. Second time around, I could really see all the differences – but I’m actually glad I saw the movie first. It helped me picture the world, in a way, and the characters – but everything in the book is so vastly different, those images didn’t really match up when re-watching the movie.⠀ .⠀ This book is easily one of my favorites I’ve read this year and a book I would like to reread! The book is a lot more complex than the movie could ever hope to be. I can understand why a lot of it was changed – the book starts out with Wade going to school. Nobody wants to see that – it doesn’t translate well to film.⠀ .⠀ The major difference between the book and movie was the Player One aspect. The book is all about Parzival – Wade Watts. This is a solo player game. Sure, he has friends like Aech – but they aren’t vital like they were made out to be in the movie. This is about the player one and only that player one. The book is a lot darker and sadder, too. Not everyone has a happy ending and there are a lot of real world consequences.⠀ .⠀ I have a lot more feelings about this book - theres a full review on the blog, link in bio!⠀ .⠀ Have you read or seen Ready Player One? I can honestly say that this is the fastest amount of time that I've spent on a book, just less than a week. And I'm glad I took the time to read it. Yeah it may be the typical YA, Dystopian novels we've been getting for the past decade or so, but it is definitely one of my favourites to date. I've never invested so much time into a book since the last Harry Potter was released and I can definitely say that this was an amazing and gripping story to follow. I felt like I really wanted to just stop reading and just somehow become a part of the story and join in inside the 'OASIS' MMO. I know I'm a few years late to reading this book, but since the trailer for he movie came out, I wanted to go to the source. And I'm glad I did. Who else has seen the teaser trailer for Ready Player One? I was personally disappointed, not only did they change the setting from OKC (my hood yo) to Ohio, 90% of what I saw was not the book I read. Hopefully the movie will still be good, I would hate for a Hollywood to ruin another book I love. . .
