Sonic hedgehog gene, a gene that helps your organs decide how and where to grow in your body, was originally identified in fruit flies as a gene useful in embryonic development!

When the gene is mutated, it makes the little fly larvae look like little baby hedgehogs because of how extra spiky they are, and the scientist who discovered this at the time decided to name the gene sonic hedgehog gene because his wife owned a magazine that had an advertisement in it for Sonic.
