Evan Hansen, though a total shy fluff ball in every fic and fandom work out there, is not a puppy.

As much as the songs and script might make it seem so, the play and delivery really portray him as a deep character who tends to aggressively lash out when others push him.

He raises his voice to a shout, he says hurtful things, he gets defensive not in a sad or cute way but in a stop-it-get-away-from-me way.

I like this character far more than the ones I see in the fandom simply because it is more flawed, more relatable, more understandable. More human.

He is complicated. We all are. But it’s important not to push this beautifully complex character into a 2D shell.
