Years and years pass at Camp Camp, soon the campers are all grown up. Max decides to become a camp counsellor, inspired by the closest person he had to a dad, David. They run the camp together for many years, taking hikes together to kill time. More years pass, David's getting a little too tired to hike as much as they used to. Max and David watch generations of campers come and go, together.
One day David and Max decide to go on one last hike before they called in a night, it took longer than usual, David was slower and grew tired more easily due to his age, but Max was patient.
They near the top of the small mountain they usually hiked, David out of breath, Max had walked up ahead. Max turns to David, watching him as he trudged up the hill. He encourages him, saying 'you're nearly there, David'
David never makes it to the top, he collapses. A panicked Max rushes to his aid, searching for a signal to call an ambulance or something. But he can't get a hold of anyone.
David was fading, Max didn't know what to do. He begs David to stay with him, in which David replied he just couldn't.
Max begs him to try, he fucking had to.
David reassures him that I'd be okay, that it was his time, it was nature. With his last breath he mutters "I love you Max"
