thinking about how much ed actually loved his hometown and had connections there, and conversely how al never expresses this kind of love and connection to resembool itself, only pinako and winry and his family home. anyway i’ve exclusively been listening to the great divide by noah kahan all week
We knew everything we needed to know, and nothing stood in our way. Nothing, that is, except ourselves. A tragedy in two acts.
Is this is a great article about how the world got where it is in climate change. The problem is the the “We” Language that foists the responsibilty of cataclysmic global climate change on the EveryPerson, as though “We is the very day citizen” turned a blind eye, with our littering, our callous eating, our driving, when this very article says that it is that at high coroprate and government levels - there was efforts to circumvent regulation and to supress of information that effected behavior of the everyman, and that therew as blatant disregard of practices that could make things better - again, at high levels that were calculated to influence the everyman, the We. So, really, what it is saying is that, as always, there was and is a They. They. THEY. A few hundred MEN sitting in rooms who WOULD NOT BE MOVED. These men saw a possibility to save the world but had MILLIONS of people sayings “YES! LETS CHANGE THINGS! LET US DO SOME WORK!” and said.... “No. No, sorry.”
And this article DARES to put that on the little people. FUCK that.
That’s not the same as saying “we knew what we needed to know and nothing stood in our way but ourselves.” We didn’t stand in our way. We chose life. A few hundred men chose food, wine, sex, property, drugs, and the buzz of power over future life on earth and because they controlled the weapons, the REAL We can’t figure out how to stop them because we were lied to by FoxNews or the Government or the Corperation that was paying us to put food on our table for our children that said “If you do t his regulatory thing, I will fire ALL OF YOU and you will starve now instead of starving later” which is a lie.
So go ahead, call it a tragedy. Climate change is a tragedy. But don’t blame that on Joe BigMac sitting in traffic on the 101 pumping smog into the the air drinking soda in a styrofoam cup. He’d be driving a fucking electric car if it were affordable and if it were easy to recycle? He would. Yuo know how I know? Cuz fucking everyone recycles now. You have two bins, and its simple and most people who can aford a hybrid car? Get one and only some of them get it because of the gas mileage. People ALWAYS gave a shit. ALWAYS
A few greedy fucks put the entire world in chains. In the end, what it woudl have taken would have likely been a violent revolution in all the G7 countries so unless you’re taking the stance that the stance that the Collective We failed to full0on overthrow the worlds’ governments (which is a valid criticism to take, all things considered, but is NOT the one this article is making) and starting over with a truly anarchistic democracy of some sort where the power really does lie with the crowd? DONT YOU EVER BLAME CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE LITTLE PEOPLE AGAIN.
