Susan was sensible. It was, she knew, a major character flaw. It did not make you popular, or cheerful, and--this seemed to her to be the most unfair bit--it didn't even make you right.
Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time
finally started getting through resident evil 9. the only whiplash stronger than switching between grace and leon’s povs is me jumping from “I’M LITERALLY LEON” to “I’M LITERALLY DELUSIONAL”
Rayllum nightmare parallels my beloved.
Honestly though, I love the difference in these two scenarios.
In TTM we have Rayla, paranoid and exhausted, haunted by dreams of Viren taking away her loved ones. She relays these fears to Callum, who tries to reassure her that Viren is dead and there’s noting to worry about. Rayla pushes back with what is really a reasonable concern. In a world of magic and dragons, is it really that far fetched to think Viren might have found some way to survive the fall off the Storm Spire? (And , in light of Claudia’s ability to fly via dark magic in Arc 2, it really doesn’t look like implausible a concern.)
Callum is fourteen though, in way over his depth and unable to convince Rayla that her fears are unfounded.
Ultimately, her concern for her loved ones results in her making the decision to deceive Callum and set off on her own in search of Viren.
Two years later, the scenario is revered.
Callum is the one raving about sleepwalking, waking Rayla suddenly in the middle of the night. She does initially try and convince him that he just had a dream (a pretty reasonable assumption), but once Callum insists what he experienced was real, Rayla reassures him that she believes him.
She supports him in his efforts to avoid further possession and goes on a mission to destroy the pearl with him.
It’s interesting seeing how a relatively similar scenario is dealt with differently, given the benefit of age and maturity.
Sometimes I do think about the different ways Hypno was about Rainbow in TSS and SSO
Tss Hypno:Rainbow is my only friend and he understands me better than anyone else. I want to protect this world and the afterlife for him. He is my entire universe and I can't wait to be with him for eternity.
Sso Hypno:I hope Rainbow gets strong enough to beat me up I think that'd be really exciting 0D
I tried to reason with myself but found myself very unreasonable. -- Michael Lipsey
