would your muse get married? why / why not?
bruce’s thoughts on marriage ( specifically, whether it’s a viable option for him or not ) vary depending on the stage of life he’s in. overall, growing up with parents who were very much partners and in love gave him a positive view on the institution of it in general so, regardless of whether he believes it’ll happen for him or not, he’s not someone who perceives it with cynicism. if it’s between people pursuing it for the right reasons, he believes it’s a good thing.
when he’s in his twenties, bruce is not interested in marriage. he’s too fixated on his own anger over his parents’ deaths and a desire for vengeance to think too far outside of those things. he’s never been in a genuine relationship, either; he doesn’t feel compelled to pursue one, even though there have been people he developed an attraction towards to some degree or another. the only commitment bruce is open to is one towards g.otham. he’s even fully prepared to die for it, and he doesn’t want to place the burden of that onto a person who loves him.
however, by his early thirties and the point of the r.iddler’s incarceration, his mindset has radically shifted. bruce still possesses a lot of rage, but he’s realized that focusing on hope and life is far more beneficial to enacting change in the city. in addition, nearly losing alfred leads him to stop pushing people away who are trying to get in. he’s terrified of losing someone like he lost his parents, but that incident showed him that can happen whether he’s allowing the people he cares for to be close to him or not. maybe it’s better not to waste that time with them.
while bruce is hardly searching for a serious romantic relationship, much less a marriage, he won’t be quite as inclined to fight it should he meet the right person. and once he knows that it’s what both of them wants, he would absolutely marry them.
