As the sun illuminated her hair as she lies back on the seat of her Harley, a smile formed on her lips as she watched the business of the garage coming along nicely under the watchful eye of Kane, the one that had taken her place as Vice-President. She was happy that he had taken the responsibility because when she left, nothing mattered to her anymore and the club needed a strong leader if and when Blondie fell…which he had…they all had. But now things were coming back around…slowly but surely.
“It seems we had more to repair than we thought, “ her raspy voice soft as she spoke to the other man standing nearby watching as he nodded his head not saying much as they all knew how pissed off everyone was with Blondie for allowing shit to hit the fan…but weren’t they all to blame for it? Weren’t they all at fault for this shit? Often, she wondered that and had more since she called the guys back to Los Angeles. Her beating, Link’s in jail before she got the protection detail on him…an order no one had to give her but one she knew had to be taken care of.
“Red, we have a lot to do while he sits behind those bars…you know this.”
Red head nodding in agreement knowing the man spoke to truth…too much had to be done to bring them…the Eighth back to its power that it once had but maybe this time…egos and arrogance won’t get in the way…but the red headed beauty wondered if it was possible.
Her slender fingers reached into the jean vest she was known for with the Fuck Off on the lower left corner of it as her colors were hanging casually over the leather seat and chrome of her Harley when she finally pulled out her pack of Marlboro Reds and the lighter that she had taken from Bear…the oldest of them all…the one that they should listen to for advice but the young’uns rarely listened to the man that was like a father to them all…a smirk curled the corners of her lips as she placed the cancer stick between crimson lips watching the flame dance in front of her before she inhaled the grey smoke. Kicking her leg over to one side lifting her slight frame from the chrome monster she rode, she stood next to the Kane as his focus was on the rabble and destruction of the building before them both.
“I wasn’t here…I only heard about how this happened and why, Kane.”
That familiar raspy voice soft as she spoke when she saw a reaction out of him…finally and she felt his eyes upon her before she turned her head slightly to the side seeing the frustration in his eyes; and she knew a part of it was for her.
”You left at a bad time, Red and you were the one that could have saved a lot of this,” that damn soft but strong voice of his echoed in her ears but she did not say a word as she knew he was not done.
”You left when this club needed you but I can’t put all the blame on you, Red…we all left the club and let Link take it all and watched as the King fell.”
She watched as he shook his head at his own words knowing that they were all true. She had left…Sin had died but she stayed taking out her vengeance but it was when Niko died, she had had enough but the deals her brothers were making were dangerous placing them all in danger.
The guns…the drugs…the gangsta thinking of the streets were overwhelming them as the vermin and slugs of their world…yes…even in their world of crime and making money; there were people lower on the totem pole to the Feds.
A half assed smile formed on her lips as the thought ran through her head knowing the words that had falling from the man’s lips were the truth. Link was back in prison for violating parole. She couldn’t believe the asshole had lost control of himself even after the new baby. She wanted to kick his ass but knew the blonde man hadn’t been the same since they forced him to see the shrink that played with his head. Once he had gotten away from her and it was as if he was a victim of Stockholm syndrome but now he couldn’t do anything on his own or his decisions didn’t make sense….they all knew something was different.
“Kane, I am not saying it was a good or bad time but I don’t think any of us staying was a great thing either…too much had transpired and too many enemies had bounties out for our heads…ALL of our heads.”
Smoke escaped her lips as she spoke before taking another drag from the cigarette and dropping it to the ground for the toe of her boot to snuff it out before taking steps towards the shell of a building that was once thriving with life and laughter. Removing her sunglasses and now narrowing her eyes in the light of the sun, she could still smell the smoke in the wood that was left standing. It seemed as if the past mistakes tried to burn themselves away but in the ash…they still lie there waiting for the gravediggers to bury it finally.
Turning to see the man that was now the president of the club, she knew the Eighth could be what they were but better and stronger than before remembering the brotherhood and family…as well as making money.
“This building is this club’s home…strength and business…for this club to be a club we need to get this building back to what it was.”
Her words rang true and it was the first step in many to get shit with the world right again.
