saw an umamusume scene and went “yeah thats them” so dropping a five second Rebzi doodle as I experiment with scribbles with colour backgrounds for characters.
I'm willing to hear you about the Rebzi ship. A. because I enjoy the color combination but B. I'd also just like to hear what you are cooking?
Rebecca is interesting to me in the sense that at first glance she's basically as everywoman or everygirl you could get out of the worker drones just kind of mean and probably well off. But when you digest everything she like says and acts upon, she comes off as an insane person who probably doesn't inherintly mean ill? Like it's crazy to think but she might unironically ever even meant bad to Uzi, she outright doesn't know who Uzi is. Which is nuts cuz like the boss of the military and law enforcement is her dad.
Also liked it when she had a Irish accent.
Oh hell yeah. And okay, for straight up I will be 10000% real.
the pairing came to me in a fever dream
Thats entirely it, I just woke up one midnight with those two in my head and the vaguest inklings of a story i don’t remember anymore. But asides for how I got into the pairing uhh.
A) it is a based as fuck colour palette, we only need to put a slight amount of blue on Uzi and then they both have a bit of each other on them.
B) depends on the AU, because I have a lot and most of them are probably dead in the water. Butttt, for some examples I’ve got. Uzi and Rebecca getting stuck in a mall before becoming the leads of a Scooby Doo style murder mystery plot before prom if the pilot never happened. Theres also my old single chapter war au with them. And SR with them in a V and Doll situation (DD Rebecca and Uzi “swapped” into Doll’s spot) that isn’t actually romantic. I will not be mentioning HOP asides to say answering this would be spoilers lmao.
But if you wanted to know my more generalised thoughts, then. They’re utilitarian to each other. Rebecca forces Uzi to interact with other people more and Uzi forces Rebecca to be more uhhh, unlikely to die every day due to doing stupid shit. Theres also the part where I do think they have to do a lot of fuckin work to get themselves going at the start, Rebecca has a huge lot to make up for and she’s the main driver of this ship in my eyes usually (due to her doing 👉👈 at Uzi in episode 2 leading me to headcanon that she was into her for a tiny bit).
also it is kinda amusing that we both got the opposite out of the show in regards to Rebecca and Uzi. You saying she probably doesn’t even know who Uzi is (the students not knowing who Uzi is and Rebecca not knowing her name in episode 4 I assume) and me believing that Rebecca is one of the few actually malicious of the classmates while the rest just actually don’t pay attention (episode 3 with the book tower trip was something she consciously had to do while forgetting Uzi like the other classmates would be an entirely subconscious thing.). Both observations are fine I’m just laying it out because of my baseline pov for this pairing comes from a different angle from your ask.
thoooooo. If she did legitimately not know Uzi at all then there could be some peak cabin fever fic or one shot about the pair from a “Rebecca finding solver Uzi hot and stunning Uzi out of her feral state with her being all flirty at it without clocking it was Uzi until she calmed down.”. So, I’m not stuck in one headspace enough to neglect possible peak fiction.
thanking you for the ask btw
Would stating that Rebzi (Rebecca and Uzi) is my otp ship wise get me exploded by the MD fandom, because it feels like it sometimes?
Because like I know it's sample size bias (as in, there are more of them so there's a higher total number of a percentage of them) but I've only ever been attacked by Nuzi fans for liking other ships. Which was really funny the most recent time because it was on my Lizzy X N fic which is supposed to specifically show how those two don't work together as well as N and Uzi (because like, come on they are canon and I will not deny they work well together as a pair).
Also finding it both funny and annoying that Rebecca suffers from the "annoying character" pains more then actually just being a bad person considering our main cast are mostly made up of mass murderers under duress and get less flack then slightly promiscuous teenager who sucks at flirting and is a bully. (High-key Lizzy and Doll are arguably worse in my opinion but that's just my own reading on them so yeah, idk, made this post instead of writing my fic)
Honestly looking at MD and it's selection of fine brewed possible enemies to lovers pairings and like. Damn, we for real got some good ones here. So obligatory thoughts on them since I need to post (instead of reblog) more then once a blue moon.
1. Voll. Gang if we're talking about enemies to lovers ships in MURDER DRONES, then of fucking course Voll is number 1. It may not be my favourite but it's undeniably the king of this type of pairing. It's well known (comparatively to the others here ig) and easy to reasonably do in any au or headcanon series or whatever else because the baseline is practically there. Not even practically, it just is. Doll's whole shtick on the surface (read: without five seconds of digging) is hating on V with the sort of ever present premeditated vitriol that every rapper wishes they could carry with them, she hates her guts and canonically impales them too. She takes time out of what was probably weeks to slowly kill off people she probably knew, Doll was willing to throw Lizzy to the wind (deserved (I have my thoughts on Lizzy but those aren't important here)) and ruin her reputation in front of the whole school JUST for the chance to kill someone who has been stuck in her head day in and day out for years. Yall seen how she already carries the picture of V around too, that's prime time yearning. And what's funnier is that V herself doesn't actually like, make this pairing worse in a "oh they hate each other so it's a bit harder to get them together" way, no, even in canon she tried her damn HARDEST to project an aura of smug entitlement to her actions upon Doll's parents. "Didn't even taste that good", utter refusal to acknowledge that her actions caused other people problems (ik this is more plot thing because that's sort of related to V's arc but it still applies here too), being stupid obvious about your backstab plan on Lizzy? Girl are you trying to ragebait her? because you like seeing Doll fume and seethe and get all red and scary... See, the enemies to lovers writes itself.
2. Purplemalice. Nori and the woman who literally gave the "Nori is evil" fuckin bombshell, Alice's entire existence in MD seems to be shortened down to being the interesting underutilized side peice who also significantly impedes any Nori related actions. I don't even need to give an example of Alice hating on Nori because that's as before stated, practically half her character. Asides from Alice's side of this tho, Nori actually offers a fun way to play the pairing due to how she literally never once acknowledges Alice's existence in any shot/hidden detail or dialogue. Alice having a one sided hatred for some goth chick who would undoubtedly drink ungodly amounts of monster energy drink if given the chance will never not be peak.
3. Codegold. Only reason this is here instead of being in fourth place is purely by how popular it is making it more heard of then the ones below it, but otherwise it's sort of washed down compared to the other ships here. J hates N, N tries to be nice with J. It's even more one sided hatred then the above pairing and that actually makes it just as interesting. Especially with how these two are both actually more entangled throughout the show (sharing scenes and whatnot) then either of the above pairs. There is TIME, in this fast as fuck paced show for it to show you that these two aren't all sunshine and whatnot, which said time is almost always used to show J beating on N somehow and N being a bottom until it's any scene set post pilot. Which is, admittedly like one scene but still.
4. Rebzi. Slept on considering it's slow unpopular despite having every hallmark of a good enemies to lovers pairing. Uzi probably hates Rebecca's guts (can be further greenlit by the fact she had to have let Rebecca's top half get away during camp) and Rebecca has canonically taken actions to trample down Uzi's popularity even if small ones more akin to reinforcing Uzi's place in the school social ladder (the book throw and insinuation that Uzi will go to prom alone, despite that ending up the opposite as Uzi ended up with N and Rebecca is CANONICALLY ALONE WHEN CALLED OUT BY LIZZY lmfao.). They hate each other, it's that simple. There's easily angles on what they were like in the past considering there has to be a reason Rebecca puts effort into harrassing Uzi despite everyone else just, casually disliking and forgetting her so there's past Rebzi stuff as possible answers. And then there's the obvious camp stuff one can do for this pair, Uzi going after Rebecca out of spite. Rebecca flirting with N to get on Uzi's nerves (probably not canon since she didn't know they were together in the first place but still.) both girls constantly having each other in their thoughts in a "I need her to suffer" way. Maybe.
5. Tessuzi. Even rarer and high-key carried by whether one believes Uzi is a sheltered and brash enough kid to still be racist towards what is canonically a dead body. This pair is so wack considering how little screen time Tessa (the real one, even if Cyn was playing dress up as her, all those actions were still Cyn's interpretation of Tessa and thus, not actually Tessa.) and how intent Uzi is on her kill all humans shtick. This one is kind of just here compared to the rest imo, I'm tired. Tho, there's something to be said about Tessa (the real one, in some au) hating on Uzi for being the "new random hate filled solver drone who continuously endangers N" lmao.
Idk why my brain said to do this but yeah, this has been done.
I know the usual crackship name for Rebecca x Uzi is "Rebzi", but I'd like to propose the funnier alternative: "Uzbec"
Uzbekistani crackship....... funni................
Uuumm... Rebzi in ur style?? Pleasee (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
