“Wedded After Sentence,” Toronto Globe. October 7, 1910. Page 01. ----- BRIDGEROOM TO PENITENTIARY FOR FIVE YEARS ---- Osias Millaire and Miss Servent of Hull United in Wedlock, Although Man Had Just Been Convicted of Theft. ---- (Special Despatch to The Globe.) Ottawa, Ont. 6. - In the sanctity of St. Joseph’s Church yesterday afternoon took place one of the strangest and most dramatic weddings in the history of Ottawa. On Tuesday morning Osias Millaire was sentenced to five years in Kingston Penitentiary for the theft of $100 from Unilxte Portelance, a Russell county farmer. Yesterday afternoon he stood at the rail of the altar in St. Joseph’s Cjurch chained to the turnkey of the jail, and with the solemn words of the ceremony broken by the sinister clink of the handcuffs was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Servent, Law street, Hull. Only four people saw the ceremony. The ‘best man’ was Detective Ryan. Also supporting the groom was Turnkey Young of the Ottawa jail, with the prisoner’s wrist double chained in his. As soon as the ceremony was completed the girl went to the home of Millaire’s parents on Bard street, and her husband was taken to serve his sentence.
Millaire, who has stoutly maintained his innocence, was to have been married to Miss Servent in the near future. When the girl heard of his sentence on Tuesday she decided that the wedding must take place at once before her lover was taken away to Kingston to begin serving his sentence. Being a parishioner of Rev. Father Carriere of Hull, she communicated with him, and the reverend gentleman went post-haste in interview with the prisoner. Millaire stated that he was not only willing but anxious to have the marriage take place. Father Carriere then saw Sheriff Richardson, and asked permission to have the ceremony conducted at the Holy Redeemer Church, Hull. This the sheriff was unable to allow, as the law forbids a prisoner in one province under sentence being taken to another. However, the Sheriff told Father Carriere that he would allow Millaire out for sufficient time to be taken to any church in Ottawa. Arrangements were then quickly made at St. Joseph’s to allow the marriage to take place. The bride is convinced of her husband’s innocence. She comes of a good family, and says steps will be taken to secure a new trial
“Mother Is On Trial For Murdering Baby,” Toronto Star. November 9, 1938. Page 02. ---- Mother-in-law Barred Door, Denies Fomenting Strife ---- Special to the Star Goderich, Nov. 9 - Mrs. Ruby Rebecca Magee, 37, went on trial, before Mr. Justice McTague, at the assizes, yesterday. She is charged with murdering her 10-months-old baby, Mildred Ruth.
The accused carried the body of her baby to her husband, William, in the field on July 27. Both mother and babe were dripping wet.
Mrs. Sarah Magee, mother-in-law, admitted that she had put up a partition in the home, but denied that she had unduly fomented strife. She said she had once taken the baby and locked the mother out, ‘but I never intended keeping it, I gave it back when police came.’
The couple, who lived in Morris township, near Wingham, were married Dec. 23, 1936. The baby was born Sept. 10, 1937.
Relationships can be trouble at times, like a waves on the ocean. It goes up and down and there is compromise. We all have our differences and we all can compromise through negotiation, diplomacy or bribery. That is why being number two can have it’s advantages. Of course Man needs to be essential and that will be either alpha or omega. Who will win the war? Check out my funny design now in action and guess who is the winner @ http://www.damonkeymind.com
Finally married the love of my life last Saturday and I'm so glad we made this decision. The only thing that's gonna suck is him leaving for basic training and then AIT. At least after that, I'll be with him again and he'll hopefully be stationed someone nice. 😊 can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my husband. 😍
Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day after you’ve gotten married gets like ten times more difficult. First, I have to figure out what to do for my mom. That’s easy I’ve known her all my life and we live in the same state. Then, I have to figure out what to do for not only Tyler’s mom, but his stepmom as well. All of which wouldn’t be too difficult if A. I knew them well and B. If they lived close by. I feel like it’s so important to make all mother’s feel appreciated on this day becuase they work so hard for their kids. I want to make his Moms feel just as appreciated as I want mine to feel. So far, I have the perfect gift for my mom, and we sent out something pretty good for his step-mom, but his mom is the most difficult. Wish us luck. And good luck to everyone as they find something for their mothers on this special day.
