do you think you wasted 5 years of your life by going to college? i mean you're not using your degree, if you were to have pursued dancing full-time you'd be 5 years ahead of where you are now, right?
Abso-fuckin-lutely. While college taught me a lot….it prepared me for NOTHING in the real world when I got out. Literally nothing.
Let me tell you what happens after you graduate…You get out. You think well okay let me look for a job in my field. You go online, do a bunch of job searches pertaining to your major or interests.
You read the requirements and skills needed for that job and you don’t even know what they’re talking about: And you’re just like…how do I not know this
Then literally within the next two weeks you get a notice in the mail asking for a payment for your student loan. Student loan payment?! But you JUST got out? With what money are you supposed to pay this with?
Luckily they give you 6 months AFTER you graduate to pay. 6 months?! Okay,That’s PLENTY of time to find a job and get my shit together.
You continue your job search and sending out applications…over…and over..Cover letter after cover letter after cover letter. And noo responses.
Suddenly….the 6 month period is over and you’re like WHERE DID THE TIME GO?! Now you have to pay this bill with your job at “Panera Bread”, a person who graduated with a Bachellors Degree.
But..wait…how do you even pay the loan? How many loans do I actually have? Who loaned it to me? And suddenly you realize…..”How the fuck did I come out of school knowing Newton’s 3 laws of Motion in Physics, but idk how to pay a college loan?”
Also, most likely you are still living with your parents unless your parents have been very generous and bought you your own apartment. …and they in their ignorance start to question..”Um…why haven’t you gotten a job yet? It’s been 6 months already since you graduated. When do u plan to move out?! You’re gonna live here forever? You gotta grow up”
and you’re just there like “IDK WHATS GOING ON”
After a while this starts to cause major anxiety and sometimes depression. You spend 4+ years of your life studying hard to graduate to get your dream job…only to realize you aren’t qualified for ANYTHING in the world. And it SUCKS. REALLY BADLY.
I realize now, if I hadn’t wasted so much time and really pursued dance, who knows…I could’ve been on that VMA stage this past month.
Wow spot on
