Familial Ties That Bind // Thorin and Kili

Thorin knew he had to speak to Kili on this day. There was something happening between his younger nephew, and the female Silvan Elf, named Tauriel. He knew she had helped to save Kili after the battle of the five armies, and may have been the one who saved him at all. He was told by Balin she did not leave his side for the entire time his nephew was asleep, and recovering, and tended to his wounds, redressing them, and using the same balm the Elven elders had used on him, and even Fili.
So, it was that he found himself standing outside his younger nephews chambers, on a chilly Winter’s morning. Snow was falling heavily all along the slopes of Erebor, and ice covered all the surfaces outside the Palace fortress. He could even see Dale was covered in the thick gleaming ice and heavily falling snow. So it was a good day to spend indoors, and to be with his younger nephew.
He was pleased he had lived through that horrible battle, how all of them had survived that terrible day. He knew he and his nephews were still recovering, and he himself was using a golden walking stick from his own injuries. So he would be sure to take things slowly, for he did not want to hurt Kili anymore than he already was, for he loved his younger nephew, just as much as he loved Fili.
Thorin reached up carefully and knocked upon the door to Kili’s chamber, not too roughly, as he called out to him. “Kili, it is your Uncle Thorin. I have come to speak with you. Are you awake now?”
