Her gaze flickered from the path behind them, the confusion was evident on her face as her expression changed from happy, to confused and then worried. It was only when her gaze had returned to her brother that Dis had noticed the blood, she opened her mouth and then shut it before any words passed her lips, searching his eyes for some sort of explanation as to why he would be asking her of all people for forgiveness.
And then it clicked.
Throin had returned without Vili, covered in blood and tracks of tears in the dirt on his face. Dis stared up at her brother, thoughts going to her children both of whom were completely oblivious to the fact it was only their Uncle standing in the path. As if she was no longer in control of her own body, her hands tightened around Thorin’s coat like he was the only only holding her to this earth.
Swallowing the lump in her throat and blinking back the tears that threatened to spill, Dis spoke through clenched teeth.
“Thorin what happened?”
