hello, ia m looking to buy HG/COG published games, aside from the favorites, TWC and FHR, which book can you recommend? I am kinda stingy with my funds and I just wanna make sure the book is worth it. Lol! Thank you!
Published books, no WIPs? Let me see what I have in my little satchel.
Under the cut for long post.
1. The Fog Knows Your Name (COG)
Genre: Horror (but not too scary), HS setting
Romance Options: Phenomenal
Plot: Great!
Writing: Amazing
Do I recommend? Hell yeah. Number one on my list. Also, it’s a one and done book. So no cliffhangers.
Cons: Some people have expressed frustration with the stat checks. You do have to keep an eye on your stats. But I recommend playing without checking your stats first fo really enjoy the game because even the bad endings are phenomenally written. And if you are one of those who want to hit the objectives, just focus on specific skills.

2. Keeper of the Sun and Moon
Genre: Young Adult, Modern Fantasy, College setting
Romance Options: Phenomenal, and so many to choose from. You might have difficulty getting into some routes but the cog forum for the game is active with RO route guides and the author also answers guides here on tumblr. (@/keeperofthesunandmoon)
Plot: Good but drags a bit, the setting is a bit open world, you can explore as you please in some parts. I enjoy it but some get bored.
Writing: Great!
Do I recommend it? Yes! It’s my comfort COG book. I’ve read it more than 20 times because I’ve romanced almost all ROs and you can play as several supernatural species. Also, book 2 is coming out soon so that’s something I’m lookin forward to very much.
Cons: Like I said, sometimes it drags. And the romance is great but it’s not the main focus.

3. The Soul Stone War
Genre: High Fantasy, Romance, 18+
Romance Options: Four with two polyam routes. Take note of the age warning.
Plot: Interesting enough. It plays out like any other “hero on a quest” story.
Writing: Good, heavy on the romance if that’s your thing
Do I recommend it? Not top on my list but it’s highly recommended by others. Also if you’re into 18+ stuff, the author has a tumblr with A LOT of steamy snippets. I’m talking straight up thirst traps.
Cons: the reason why it’s not top on my list is because this is a set up book for a series. So it does end on a bit of a cliff. And you don’t get to go deeply into the other romances until later books so if you’re impatient like me, that could deter you. Book 2 demo is out now though but only the first two chapters.

4. Creme dela Creme
Genre: College (?) Setting, Romance, Intrigue
Romance Options: Lots of options, all decent, one polyam route
Plot: Gossip Girl but british. I’m so-so on the story itself but I like how diverse the possible routes are.
Writing: Good
Do I recommend it? Not top on my list but I got a lot of gameplay out of this one due to the number of ROs and possible endings.

5. The Grim and I
This is an indulgent special mention skdhs
Genre: Modern Fantasy
Plot: You’re dead and the Grim Reaper has come to take you but you can’t take his hand and follow him to the other side for some reason. You spend the rest of the book trying to figure out your unfinished business and settling it.
Romance: None, unless your unfinished business is your wife/husband
Writing: Impeccable! Hilarious at times, heartbreaking at other times, Thom Baylay is incredible with words.
Do I recommend it? Yes! But it’s not for everyone. I will tell you though that after playing this game, it still lives in my head rent free. I may have cried once or twice.
Cons: Very philosophical at times, an acquired taste. No strong romance.
FREE TO PLAY:
Choice of the Deathless - I love it but some people dont. You play as a lawyer in a firm, working as a mediator between demons and humans. It’s free so if you feel like playing it, nothing much to lose.
