Part of wearing this sash is not about pre planned appearances and being glam, it's also about mucking in and just starting a conversation. @nhcarnivalldn is a fantastic event but just looking at the mess that people leave for others to clean up breaks my heart. This is OUR planet, people and whilst I am all for letting loose and having a great time we should also be a little more conscious of the effect our actions have on the planet. I know full well that picking up my one little bag of rubbish didn't touch the sides but I truly believe that we should all aim to make small changes and be more mindful of our actions with regards to waste and recycling. The vast majority of the waste left at NHC will go to landfill just for us to have a good time. If we all took 5 minutes to responsibly dispose of our waste at events like this it would make a huge difference. I know that my small bag wasn't a fix but it started a conversation with a few people who saw me cleaning up my immediate area, they commented that they felt bad enough to pick up their own rubbish to recycle it appropriately. This made me realise that making change is about leading by example and baby steps, we can't control mass change but we very much can control our own actions and that is a start. Let's slow down the decline of our environment, for each other, for the animals, for our children...for their future.
