this one! i still love it a lot. I somehow managed to capture the essence of my solavellan ship perfectly, the ideas i have in my head are executed well enough. dreamy fade with glowy butterflies? check! lotus and muddy pond that solas is being submerged in? check! there's even the black city in a corner somewhere hidden if you look closely! haha
Can I just say, I love, love, love how you are able to describe historical fashion and where to look at details to identify the period of it. You did it twice recently, where I had a hunch that both dresses were actually younger than stated (both were said to be from 1865, but I had a hunch they were from 1869/70ish), and I'm not a fashion historian so to learn where to look beyond the shape of the skirt and the overall silhouette of a dress is so educational. Thank you for writing these posts.
Thank you so much!
I taught myself the intricacies of dating clothes and images through a pretty intensive and deliberate study of fashion plates and paintings (particularly fashion plates). I started learning in grad school because we needed to be able to do it to some extent, but years and years ago while working as a contract cataloguer, I made a powerpoint timeline with one plate per year (from I think 1860 to 1920) to assist me in dating the pieces in that museum's costume collection, which really turbo-charged me. And I just kept working from there!
my last dopamine week contribution is about the work I picked as my week's focused reading, @redbatchedcumbermayned's MAATLC ❤️
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Maybe the most striking thing about MAATLC for me, was the fact that I could have easily stumbled on this before ever playing Rogue Trader, and still had felt as immersed in the story. Fran does such wonderful groundwork for one thing to expand on the next, and it's been a particular delight to see Heinrix's character explored and expanded through her eyes. I'm a sucker for getting to see why a love interest finds their feelings for the protagonist, and I'm with Heinrix on this one - I'd fall in love with Isha too!
Fran, writing is hard, and it's particularly daring when you're doing it on a language that's not your native. As ESL, your work is inspiring, a level of wordsmanship one can only aspire to, and I can only thank you so much for sharing it with us. There's still a whole lot of chapters for me to read - so forgive me for not going too in-depth - but I know I'll enjoy every single one of it and can't wait to catch up <3
Hi, I want to get into DAO again, and I know there are a ton of mods out there for updating that game to look less dated. Can you recommend me some need-to-install mods for DAO?
This is just a starter list and I’m sure others will bring some up:
To get some of my own personal biases out of the way, hawekthority, Dalishious, and magpiedragon, out of the way (I’d rec sapphim and bisexualzuko too, just on principal, bc I love them). Personal favorites are:
RDP Alistair by Hawkethority
45 Real Skin Colors, Justice for Justice and Warden Robe by Dalishious
Practical Morrigan Robe and Neutral Female Armor by magpiedragon
Now onto a slightly longer list, starting with faces:
Since the families don’t change like in DA2, check out AndersWasRight’s family morphs for Brosca, Aeducan, Cousland and some Mahariel faces.
danexuslurker did some amazing work making Ferelden Elves look less whitewashed
arthmis made my literal favorite Leliana and Zevran on the nexus, I can’t imagine using any other Zevran at this point and her Morrigan is gorgeous too
On Morrigan, I personally use Yet Another Morrigan Mod
Lady of the Forest Bark Retexture is definitely a must have. The author also did a covered desire demons, but I use the male desire demons mod there
Onto textures and areas...
Theta HD comes highly recommended. I use some of it.
I also use JB3textures overtop of it and the game looks really nice.
DAO Lighting Overhaul is also really nice
And you can pair it with DAO Graphics Overhaul
Those are the ones I use character and graphic wise. I’m personally using RDP and some personal background morphs for other characters, and don’t recommend Dragon Age Redesigned for a number of reasons, so just needle @orsino till she releases RDP proper.
You can also check our mod recs list, and I have my own right over here.
If other mods/other followers have some suggestions pls feel free to RB with these?
