I've been experimenting with a little bit of joinery lately. Do I know what I'm doing? No. Do I like what I'm doing? Yes!
Fun fact, eastern redcedar isn't a cedar, it's a juniper!
Anyways, the wood is from a hunk of redcedar and I've been using some tools I got recently to practice. Also made a couple rough combs (not pictured here) for help in weaving.
I've been trying to find out what the color molecule(s) is in the heartwood, with no luck, but i'm wondering if it can be used to dye things. I'll be collecting wood chips from my carving and i want to experiment with different things (pH, temperature, time, etc) to see if it works. At the very least it might give a tan/brown.
Other woods can make pretty neat colors, such as logwood, sandalwood, osage orange, etc. so it's not an experiment without precedent! Not expecting anything quite as vibrant as the ones mentioned but will still see what goes down
