(Very long post, feel free to skip this one if you don't feel like reading fellas.)
I'm gonna be messy on main for a minute because It's My Blog and I can do that. But like. With my painting of Tyal that I made, the one with the red painted Kvatch logo in the background, I posted it on reddit and someone ended up commenting that Tyal looked a bit like their character. What a coincidence! They were not even the same in-game race, but they had similar marks on their forehead and they both had horns. Neat! I thought the interaction was over.
This person then sends me DMs supposedly accusing me of art theft of said character because the drawing I made was at the same angle as one of their art pieces- and like, it's only hitting me NOW that they may have been accusing me of using AI since this person layered my drawing and that drawing on top of each other to compare. I thought they were accusing me of tracing because they were being vague, but now (as per usual) I am putting the puzzle pieces together AFTER an interaction ended.
IF this is what that person was implying in their messages, this will have been the third time I have been accused of using AI when posting my art on r/Oblivion. I love a lot of the people there, most of them are awesome! But MAN. Being an artist on the internet nowadays can be brutal man, I'll tell you what.
If that person is somehow reading this- Hi! I will show you the drawing in its earlier stages vs the final product. After I made the first image, I liquified it into hell 100 times and adjusted everything with the lasso tool to get the final proportions between Clip Studio Paint and Rebelle. I doubt they'll see this, though. But still, I would like to defend myself.
Not to mention when they placed my art over the other drawing they had, they had to flip my drawing to do so. As far as I know, AI doesn't work this way unless the person adding to the dataset uploaded a mirrored image of the drawing you had. I'm almost 100% sure that AI can only collage together information that gets added to the dataset as-is, I really do not think it can mirror images to generate an image- but who knows. The tech is always evolving and I don't know everything about how the tech works.
If you go to my TikTok page you will very quickly see I am a real artist. I don't use AI and I have plenty of reposts speaking out against AI. If you've been following me since 2017 (or even before, on my older blogs.) you ESPECIALLY know that I am a genuine artist. I will even show you the timelapse of the CSP file I have on hand where I make my liquify adjustments since Rebelle has no liquify tool, and I had to keep going back to CSP to edit things from time to time.
Please do not accuse people of art theft / AI usage if you don't know what you're talking about OR if you have no substantial evidence besides "Oh the pose is similar to this one other thing if you flip it around!!!!" These accusations are not only hurtful, but they are harmful. This person did it through DM's so I really don't need to make a post defending myself like this, but I'm mad. I can be chill and pretend I'm not mad, but I am mad.
I've worked hard to get to where I am. I don't have a massive following. I create art because I love creating things. I create art because I am good at it and I am passionate about it, and I have been doing it my entire life. So yeah, these things DO make me very angry. I wasn't even pressed about this until I realized what they may have actually been implying from the start.
Anyway, that's the post! I shouldn't let these people get to me, and I normally don't.. unless they accuse me of using AI. If this KEEPS happening I won't make a post dedicated to each one, because I think after the 4th, 5th, 6th time the story will get old. But ooooOOOUGH. GAHHHHH.
