Need a good laugh. What is your most insane TRC/TDT takes?

hello, my good friend, it is i, your local not normal about media guy! i am currently hiding in the cooler at work bc I locked myself in again. insane TRC/TDT takes? I have a few rapid fire miscellaneous ideas/headcanons for the masses that I rattle amongst the brain like a hyperactive toddler. allow me to share:

- blue gets the barbie movie. henry gets the barbie movie. it took gansey two watches to get the barbie movie and blue nearly gave up because "if you don't get it i can't help you" but by god he tried. ronan gets it but pretends he doesn't and owns an "i am kenough" fuzzy sweater he does not wear anywhere. adam did not get the barbie movie. he will not pretend to get the barbie movie. he does not care because those tickets were nearly thirty dollars so he did not see it. who the fuck is ryan gosling? noah loves it, he kind of gets it but a lot of it goes over his head. declan, like ronan, pretends not to get it but "i'm just ken" is in his spotify wrapped. matthew adores it but for the wrong reasons and he and ronan have matching fuzzy sweaters.

- ronan's nut allergy is canon. to ME. and he didn’t really register as a kid that other people weren't allergic to peanuts he thought they were all the DEATH NUT so one day when Declan really pissed him off he crushed up peanuts and put it in his dinner because kids do dumb shit like that and Declan ate it all and said he felt fine and ronan was appalled and convinced Declan was secretly microdosing on peanuts to built an immunity so he decided to do the same he started choking and nearly died but he's okay now.

- Matthew has had three concussions. one was formed halfway through healing from the second concussion. they never told him because they didn't know if he really had a normally functioning brain to have permanent damage in. sometimes he takes a little long to process information and Declan holds his breath but nothing significant as far as they can tell

- Henry canonically listens to kpop, which means he probably listens to 2nd gen kpop, which means I can say with confidence he listens to my favourite bands SHINee and BIGBANG, 2NE1, Wonder Girls. Why is this important? idk it just brings me joy.

- adam and ronan have kinks, they are aware they have kinks, they both are kind of aware the other has kinks (adam knows Ronan is into his hands, Ronan notices Adam kind of gets off on Ronan being smart they just dont talk about it) and they stumble into several dubious circumstances revolving them both being sexually repressed and unwilling to talk about their kinks theyre fine its all fine but like sometimes they'll just do things and forget safewords or to even say "hey man pls do not call me that" and its fine but also I do not see these two communicating about sex beyond "yes please" and Ronan kinda just letting Adam do what he wants with him. all well and good but also sometimes as a response Adam will ask him to take out the trash and he'll get a boner

- adam cannot cook. I have never felt more adamantly that he cannot cook. he and gansey cannot cook. however, gansey can learn. adam said, "fuck you gansey if you can read you can cook" and tried to cook and nearly burnt the Barns down and it is his deepest shame he still cannot cook meanwhile gansey can make grilled cheese and god does adam wish he could make grilled cheese as good as gansey's grilled cheese but no. Ronan thinks its hilarious and refuses to help and adam tells no one he can't cook because he sees it as a weakness.

- gansey microwaves his tea its disgusting blue groans in disgust everytime she sees it

- blue convinces Ronan to let her pierce his ears and pretends like she'll let him do hers too but she lies and gets them professionally pierced because she's worried about infection meanwhile ronan's ear swells and he has an adverse reaction and cannot sleep on his side for a month

idk if these count as insane but I DO have more and will gladly share these are rapid fire off the top of my head and I hear my manager with the keys about to let me out

Thinking about how Gansey really had a gun to his head in the first book and instead of freaking out, he just is like “Welp. Guess I am dying now.” that should have been my indicator that he knew the whole time. :( :( :( he tricked me

When it comes to Gansey and that gun, it's very telling that we don't sit in his head in the long-term aftermath. Because in the moment, he freezes and rationalizes and does what he can to talk Whelk down. All we really get (beyond him freezing and sitting in the aftermath, absolutely terrified, probably just having had a panic attack) to clue in how he feels is this:

"Could someone cut this hospital bracelet off?" he asked. There was something gallant and hectic about the deliberately offhand way he asked it. pg 338, The Raven Boys

This is so interesting, because he does freak out. It's just very very restrained. I always think Gansey values his decorum and outer image, and has this responsibility in his mind to be the one with his "shit together" if you will. As a character, he represses and masks and hides and often deals with his internal distress through helping the people around him. It's one of my favourite character flaws of Gansey, really. We see him shift into problem-solving mode in this moment, and the fact Blue is the one who hones in on how he tries for casual is so interesting to me. Because Gansey cannot fix the hole inside him, but he can fix the problems of everyone around him.

I do register this moment as one that is severely traumatic for Gansey (and his conversation with Adam about the gun Adam took is given extra weight considering they now both have a complicated relationship with guns), but the kind he'd not pay much attention to. He'll disclose this terrifically traumatic experience much like one would recount what they had for supper the night before. Much like his death with the wasps, Gansey will try for casual, because to some degree his mannerisms and his image are a shield.

How many fucking times do I have to say Fuck Adam for the message to get through. FUCK ADAM. Why is this hard to understand. I'm yawning. This is like asking me to choose between eating glass or fine grade sashimi. FUCK ADAM. Why is this a question anymore. Have I not made this clear enough. Is the Parrish midriff not sacred for this exact reason?

Marry Gansey. I think he's fun to listen to when he's yapping. He's canonically hot. I may be emotionally repressed but I have fucking eyes???? Also not a question. Also, this man has escaped death twice how the fuck would me killing him stick?????? No, I'm marrying Gansey and Blue as already predetermined. They're the most couple of all time and someone needs to stay home and do their dishes might as well be me. I love dorks who like to yammer about their special interests and Blue and Gansey both fit that mold perfectly next question.

I'm killing Ronan but it's in self defense because I just fucked his husband and I brought a knife.

Thoughts on Zutara?

Ah. Zutara.

I have to be honest, I need to tread on careful ground here because the last time I spoke on Katara shipping wars I got, essentially, drawn and quartered on live TV. In fact, I think the person who went after me wanted to send me into the 50th Quarter Quell Hunger Games to watch me die slowly, brutally, and in 4k.

Yeah, so I ship Zutara! I actually quite enjoy it thematically, and I can't put my finger on what draws me to it. In terms of just... chemistry onscreen - there's a genuine draw those two characters have to each other, and much like every other ship in the fandom it has an appeal to me when written well.

What made you ship it?

I think there was a buildup to it I always found very appealing? I can't think of a major "clicking" moment, because I made a very notable effort to stay out of ATLA ship wars so I just never engaged in Zutara content? Then, once again, 2020 I rewatched it and I went... "Oh. I get it now." And I think the biggest moment for me is in "The Southern Raiders." I find them most interesting when they bring good things out in each other - Zuko, for instance, really recognizing what Katara needed in that moment and how to give that to her, was what really sold it to me? I'm not too into the "oh my god he's like with the fire nation and she's water tribe oooooooooooh" but I do enjoy it for when they make an effort to connect due to their similar past experiences with the Fire Nation. I think, at its base, I really enjoy it from a thematic and a technical standpoint - it's a well-contructed and logical ship, and I think from a storytelling perspective its the most interesting and fitting for the story's themes.

(Also the Netflix adaptation marketing and the actors have fantastic chemistry.)

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I mean, I am confident enough to admit it's got an edge to it I adore in the early seasons? I love ships with nuance and intrigue, and I'll be the first to admit that scenes like the necklace scene in book one is... wow. Yeah. I didn't even know drawings could have that much chemistry. What the hell. It's interesting to me. I like that it works alongside Zuko's conflict to become good? Like, a majority of the Book Two ending angst involved him rejecting the lifeline Katara was giving him, creating a sense of betrayal and hurt.

AND THEN the journey to healing that is so beautifully crafted, oh my god. Much like I enjoy Sokka not really handling Zuko with kiddie gloves and joking around with him, I love Katara calling him out and countering him every step of the way. I find it fascinating, because Katara is so fiercely loyal and devoted to the people she loves of course it'd take a lot to heal that hurt. So, Zuko really had to do something valuable and noteworthy to regain her trust - and that arc is literal perfection, in my opinion. When she hugs him at the end of "The Southern Raiders" I genuinely get chills. They manage to go from "I hate you you are everything I have been told to hate and/or fear and you are the representation of all my past traumas" to standing side by side in a fight against the person who has the deepest hurt aimed at Zuko? Like, they work alongside one another to heal and fight their deepest childhood hurts? Like...? Damn?

(I am also perfectly content with them remaining platonic, and I see a lot of value in their platonic relationship. Because that's usually where the appeal of Avatar lies to me - in the found family dynamic. But I enjoy this ship for its narrative relevance.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I enjoy it more in-universe than I do outside. Because thematically its beautifully written. I don't dabble much in alternate universe writing, but the canon development is the most appealing aspect of it for me. God I cannot stress how, from a storytelling perspective, it is fundamentally gorgeous. The dynamics of it are built from the original cartoon's story beats, and I just think it adds that extra oomph. That KAPOW. That WHAM.

TRC/TDT masterchef AU. Thoughts? (This outta be interesting)

Hey, so before I get into this there is something you should know about me which is that I am very autistic about Masterchef. Like ridiculously so. I've written essays for fun about the behind the scenes mechanisms of the show, how the show is made and the editing twists the final cut. How the tastings actually go, the mental pressure the contestants are put under. I've found articles, archived twitters, personal reddits, cookbooks, anecdotes and interviews and youtube confessionals. you picked either the best or worst question to ask me because this scratches a niche of my interest I'm so fucking ready for this i was born for this oh my fucking god.

I'm going to preface this with my firm belief that no one in the gangsey can really cook. Except Ronan, who I stand by secretly being a great chef. Blue can cook, she doesn't like to. Noah, Gansey, Henry, and Adam cannot cook. At all. Noah and Henry I think would stumble through it, Gansey can read and make simple meals, Adam can and will burn the fucking house down. I will simply ask you to suspend your disbelief and engage in a flight of fancy that entertains these fuckers cook well enough to get on a cooking competition.

To start, Gansey gets the early-on winner's cut. He's the supposed frontrunner. Classically trained, charismatic, excellent in team challenges. He's never lost a team challenge, actually, and he's never been in a pressure test. He's got a great grasp on classical technique, knows recipes by heart, and he's got enough knowledge to know what he can and cannot alter in a recipe to really wow judges.

His problem is that the one time he gets in a pressure test, he crumples. And he's top four at this point, and it comes down to the wire. It's important to note that in this moment, Gansey freezes and panics and makes a lot of minute technical mistakes he wouldn't make otherwise. He gets a lovely sendoff, and he's remembered for being likable, silver-tongued, a solid team player, etc. (He wouldn't be Gansey on live TV, he'd be Richard Campbell Gansey III.)

Blue performs well in competition, in the team challenges, she's painted with a quirky enough disposition by show executives that they keep her on for quite a while. See, the point of Masterchef is a persona that sells, and there's a common trend of taking the quirky chef and bringing them close to the finish line. Blue is a great chef, genuinely, and self taught. She's got her own way of doing things, which can cause friction amongst her and the judge.

Another quirk of Blue's is her innovation on recipes. She'll break cooking rules, she'll make a quick alteration or substitute a unique flavour/ingredient. This either pays off spectacularly (ie. season four Ahran's savoury tiramisu) or screws her over, because it just doesn't quite come together. Regardless, she makes it to third place, and is just barely cut. It's a minor, minor technical issue, but so close to the finale, it's a mistake she couldn't afford. She talks about it being a great experience, but ultimately she has dreams for a contemporary restaurant in the city that didn't adhere to the Masterchef principles.

And every fucking season there's one Ivy League kid they stick in a Harvard hoodie and then chuck in the corner and gush over how young and intelligent and refreshing he is, how he just doesn't have a kitchen in the dorms but oh that natural talent the places he'd go with proper training. And Adam fucking hates this parading and peacocking about, but also they're right that he can cook. Like... damn well. He's a little clumsy in some places, makes a few mistakes that some classic training would remedy, but overall he's solid.

Quiet, polite, doesn't impede or mouth back to the judges, Adam is eliminated about top eight during a tag team challenge. He and Gansey butt heads. Majorly. It disrupts the flow and they produce a poor dish. Unfortunately for Adam, the judges point out his belligerence during the challenge, and he's sent home.

Henry also gets the runner up cut, but this one is for the long haul. He actually makes it to the finale! Classically trained, charismatic and practiced in public persona (much like Gansey), he's an early strong start. A little snarky, at times, but overall not too disruptive or difficult to work with. Much like Gansey, he excels in proper technical execution, and introduces a bit of flair and style. He has lovely, if a bit unconventional, plating, and excels in innovative fusions. (The kind that the judges get a little prickly over.) He's notably incorporating new technology in competition.

Henry and Ronan butt heads from day one, and it never slows down. Picking at one another, Henry delights in taunting Ronan, and Ronan comes down with equal fervor. Henry doesn't win but he gets damn close, and it's the result of some unflattering texture during the final entree course. (He's fine he didn't really need to win this was probably a front for Seondeok to get smuggled goods to Gordon Ramsey)

Ronan wins. Mainly because 1. you can take good chef!Ronan from my cold, dead hands, and 2. because it's funny. Ronan gets the early on villain cut, and obviously the editors didn't expect the smartmouth edgy Irish man to excel in such high end techniques, but he's excellent. Quickly, it's revealed that Ronan is quite the under dog, the dark horse. When he shuts his mouth and just cooks, he excels. But he doesn't do it unless it's something he wants to. He's a little difficult to work with on team challenges, but excels on his own.

(Cue Adam and Gansey screaming at each other during tag team and cut to Ronan humming and making angel food cake in the corner. Fans are shocked. Gifsets are pumped out.)

Ronan takes it home, but the finale is a fiery, edited mess. Snippets of Ronan mocking Henry are rewound and taken out of context, their early "rivalry" is marketed aggressively. And the finale is a clusterfuck because they can't stop snarking at one another over their stovetops and the judges are losing their fucking minds. Ronan succeeds by taking a major protein risk, cutting the time close, and ultimately brings it home.

(Ronan also gets the heartwarming family cut. He mentions his father in a confessional, offhandedly, and they try to milk it. He refuses, but they do bring Declan and Matthew out for the family reunion and he chokes up. This is when most people began to realize Ronan was here to stay.)

Okay that's all. Or whatever. I didn't think about this too hard. Shut up.

huh. hello. i'm also here to babble about pynch. it depends, for me. headcanons? my long established headcanons include:

Adam can't cook. For shit. Ronan can but he won't unless you ask. And he specifically only does convoluted, over the top productions of it. He's usually the one who handles the holiday meals, imo. Adam can bake pie. He once scrubbed their cast iron with soap and steel wool and Ronan has not gotten over that grudge.

Blaming @adanseydivorce for this but Adam definitely has a strength kink specifically in regards to Ronan. I can only speak the truth. Bleeds into, in general, just enjoying Ronan being GOOD at things. Ronan's smart, smarter than he lets on it anyone gives credit for. Adam Parrish has a hard on for him being smart and competent and knowing how to do shit.

Adam has a wiry sort of strength that I think Ronan equally appreciates, and I see that being an occasional "hey oh shit yeah Adam is stronger than he looks." Manual labour on minimal nutrition means Adam maybe doesn't bulk up as much as Ronan would, but he's definitely strong enough to do heavy lifting and it maybe doesn't so much catch Ronan off guard as it reminds him, "oh shit yeah my husband is STRONG".

in conclusion they both have strength and competency kinks.

I don't think they ever have kids. Adam is generally disinterested, Ronan's only inclination is to adhere to the nuclear familial dynamic he was raised in. Once they talk it out, they realize they really just. Don't want fucking kids.

I like the idea of Ronan jogging when he can't sleep and Adam biking as a leisurely exercise. I see Adam specifically only exercising in "practical" ways, and he has a damn bike. He gets really into it, imo.

Little spoon Ronan truther in the sense I think he likes being held by Adam. Specifically, nose to chest and Adam's hand on the back of his head. They face each other when they sleep. Adam canonically sleeps on his right ear when he sleeps next to Ronan. They're not strict with it — I do think Ronan holds him; actively wants to sometimes. It's dependent on their mood.

They always, always, always sleep in the same bed when they're together. Even if they've fought or they're mad or worn or tired. If they're sleeping at the same time, they're sharing a bed. They might be passive aggressive about it, Ronan fucks with the thermostat and Adam hides one of their pillows in retaliation and one of them will always get up at the crack of dawn because they're STILL mad and no, they haven't talked about it. But. They still share a bed. No one gets sent to the couch.

Standing on the "Ronan tried to propose on the morning of Declan's wedding and Adam wasn't so much pissed as, 'Jesus fuck Ronan your brother already hates me fuck no we are NOT getting engaged before his wedding. Like, yes. Obviously. Ask me later. Jesus. You know I'm going to say yes. I'm just postponing it. Quit pouting. I cannot deal with getting in the middle of your squabble with Declan because he will think this is my fault. Propose after the fucking reception. God. I love you. Fuck you." and Declan still finds out and blamed Adam but they really tried.

That's enough, I think. I could probably scrounge up more. In regards to fic, depends on which fic. Musician/Producer AU is well under way and looking to be either a massive oneshot or multichapter. Untied, Untied is my constant WIP.

Fuck Kevin because it's Kevin fucking Day and while I do not think for a second he has the emotional capacity at this point in time for a marriage he's over six foot with green fucking eyes and canonically hot I have eyes jesus fucking christ I'm climbing that man like a tree.

I'm marrying Jean because if anyone knows my Jean feelings this is a no brainer. Do I need to clarify again. This is a sweet guy and I work with fruit I'd bring him fruit every goddamn day I also know a lot of really great therapists because when I ask him, "so are you seeing anyone" I want the answer to be, "Yes, a registered psychologist" to love and heal and all that.
