#Repost @newyorkerphoto (@get_repost) ・・・ Isaiah T. Montgomery (seen in the top portrait) founded Mound Bayou in 1887. His intentions were to create an autonomous settlement for freedmen seeking shelter from the less stigmatized version of slavery known as sharecropping that began to take hold as the new South emerged. This was a promised land once heralded by Booker T. Washington and President Theodore Roosevelt as being a shining example of black achievement. Hello, this is @brandonthibodeaux from Dallas, TX. This week I am sharing work from my book, In That Land of Perfect Day, released by Red Hook Editions. It is based upon my long-term photographic project, When Morning Comes, and comprises over eight years of living with and documenting the lives of African American families across the northern Mississippi Delta in towns with names like Alligator, BoBo, and Duncan as well as the United States' oldest completely African American municipality, Mound Bayou, MS. #brandonthibodeaux #newyorkerphoto #redhookeditions #photobook #blacklivesmatter #inthatlandofperfectday #whenmorningcomes #mississippidelta
