Beck: Yeah, it's just a collection of a lot of the field recordings... Allen: But annotated, and actually a collection of his old 78s. Put together for Folkways, so it has some very early musicians. There's a whole great anthology. Beck:  That's what I love about the Blues. That a lot of those refrains were spread out in  a lot of different people's songs. A lot of the songs that different people have, they would take verses from different things, assemble them with.... Allen: Dylan took "Don't the moon look good shinin' through the trees" He took that from Charley Patton. Beck: Right. It's almost like you can't take those, though. They just sort of become a part of you and then they just come out. That's happened to me a few times.  I've done that a few times. This girl one time came up and said, that's from this song, and that's from Bug Spinners. Cuando Robert Johnson vendió su alma al diablo

En éste primer post, te contaré mi anécdota favorita del mundo de la música, que da nombre a mi blog.

Todo empieza con una canción: Crossroads, de Robert Johnson ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd60nI4sa9A ) . Recomiendo escucharla mientras lees para una mayor inmersión en el ambiente del mundo del blues del delta del Misisipi.

Robert Johnson es considerado como uno de los primeros “bluesman” famosos, y sus temas han sido versionados por gran parte de los músicos de rock clásico de los años 60, 70 y 80.

Bueno, metamos las manos en la masa. En primer lugar, es necesaria una pizca de biografía de Johnson. Nació en 1911 en Misisipi, estado al que da nombre el río en cuyo delta nació el blues. Lo crió su madre sola la mayor parte del tiempo; su padre era un jornalero que para cuando el joven Robert se hizo notar, estaba ya bien lejos.

Creció mostrando interés por la música, pero nunca estudió nada. Aún así, él quería triunfar como bluesman, y un buen día desapareció. Nadie supo nada de él durante unos cuatro meses, y al volver era uno de los mejores cantantes y guitarristas de blues que se habían conocido. Incluso sus amigos de la adolescencia dijeron estar sorprendidos, pues Robert nunca supo tocar la guitrarra decentemente.

Se cuenta que lo que ocurrió fue lo siguiente: Robert Johnson, siguiendo una vieja leyenda de la zona, se trasladó a un cruce de carreteras a altas horas de la noche y se puso a tocar la guitarra. Al rato, apareció un hombre que le pidió que le dejara su guitarra para afinarla. Lo hizo, se la devolvió, y se fue. Cuando Johnson siguió tocando la guitarra, era un virtuoso.

A partir de aquí, todo fue como la seda: grabó 29 canciones entre 1936 y 1937. Sin embargo, un denominador común en las historias de pactos con el diablo es que si bien recibes lo que querías, en ángel caído siempre encuentra una forma de llevarse tu vida antes de tiempo. Así, la fama de Robert lo hizo convertirse en un hombre mujeriego. El 16 de Agosto de 1938 murió asesinado por un marido celoso con cuya mujer Johnson habría aparentemente intimado. Algunos dicen que la causa de la muerte fue un disparo, otros que fue un whiskey envenenado...Al no haber autopsia y con el tiempo que ha pasado nunca lo sabremos. Murió a la edad de 27 años, siendo así el primer artista del Club de los 27, del que si no has oído hablar, te aconsejo que lo busques en la web o te pases por otro blog de Tumblr, Forever27club, dedicado al tema.

Por último, algunos musicólogos atribuyen ésta leyenda a otro bluesman, Tommy Johnson. Tommy era un ludópata alcohólico que con frecuencia acababa en la cárcel, y hay quien dice que la leyenda se le atribuyó para desprestigiarlo, aunque no hay consenso. Murió en 1956 de coma etílico, a los 60 años.

Una cosa es segura: ambos influenciaron enormemente a la granmayoría de artistas de rock clásico, blues, y rock n roll que les siguieron en las décadas posteriores: Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Canned Heat, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Cream...Y a su vez ellos modelaron gran parte de la cultura musical que tenemos hoy en día. Y ésta es la historia del abuelo del Rock’n’Roll y el fundador del club de los 27, Robert Johnson.
