you gotta tell me about Cullen & the blooming rose, I gotta know
Oh here’s a hint: 🍋
It’s literally eleven chapters of increasingly kinky sex where Cullen realizes he really likes to be topped by one of the pretty women at the Blooming Rose. I started working on it at the end of April and stopped at the beginning of May for some reason, but I just reread the outline and I’m 👀 at it again, so.
I finished the first chapter and about half of the second one before I ran out of steam. It’s clocking in at just shy of 5000 words right now. There’s also a Pinterest board for my main lady.
Snippet:
“Avita.” He relaxes his hands and turns them palms-up on his knees, and she places hers within them without thinking about it. “Last time, you… my hands…” He trails off, starts again, trails off once more as he struggles to get the words out.
She takes pity on him.
“Would you like me to bind them again?”
Some of the tension bleeds out of him, his shoulders slumping visibly. “Maker, please.”
I'm assuming Tumblr ate this the first time but ok tell me about "the sweater" 👀
It totally did, but I’m glad you sent it in again b/c this is an idea that I’d love to have done in time for the holidays, and considering I started this one sometime in February too, it’ll be a much more appropriate time to post it!
It was started as a bit of an immediate sequel to I won’t ask for much as well, but instead of a few days after, it’s probably been about one to two weeks at this point, and on the cusp of any formal holiday celebration. I really wanted Sharky to have a chance to actually attend a dinner with John, Joseph, and Jacob (seeing as he’s been a subject there as long as he has, it’s only fair).
Part of fleshing out more of the sibling relationship behind the scenes here, which I’ve honestly had a lot of fun with, involved thinking of some traditions they might have, so I decided sweaters had to be a thing. Holiday sweaters, ugly sweaters, any and all of the above. Just a silly way for the three to bond, even if they ended up inflicting the worst ugly sweaters they could find on each other some years.
So, one day while Sharky’s got Hurk over at his place, John stops by. He’s already invited him over for one of their dinners, but has a gift to share with him, and after shooing him away from Hurk, wants to give it to him personally.
----
Picking at the tape holding it closed, Sharky tried to peel it back best as he could to keep the wrapping paper intact. Pretty as it was, it seemed a shame to waste it, and winced when some parts of it did tear due to the way he was handling it. But he managed to get around it eventually, feeling John’s eyes on him the entire time.
“We have a…tradition of sorts,” John began, watching him unfold the green sweater. “It’s something we all adopted early on once we were all reunited. Nothing complicated, just a set of sweaters that we could each wear once the colder weather settled in.”
Up close it was easy to see the intricate details that went into it. The looping and weaving of the braided pattern was almost delicate as it traveled up the front of the sweater and down its back, and he traced it with his fingers. Wanted to see just how that felt – soft, just like the rest of it - all while working hard to keep his voice as even as possible.
“Is-is that right?”
“Yes. Joseph and his wife knit Jacob and I’s sweaters the first year, but for every year after that we would switch off. Get a new set for each other, and then wear them whenever we’d meet. Joseph suggested it as a way of enjoying the holidays, and embracing the spirit of the season, but I suspect all he wanted to do was see how far he could push the line in terms of what he could get us to wear. Or rather, push our brother.”
Sharky chuckled. “Jake not too good with this sort of thing?”
“No, not even remotely, but he makes an effort. Grins and bears it the entire time, even though he looks ridiculous in any of them. It’s a shame really. Last year’s reindeer was a classic fit for him, red and all, but…I think it’s safe to say he burned that photo as soon as I gave it to him.”
“Damn, would’ve paid some good money to see that.”
“Hence, the burning,” John replied, before shifting his attention to the sweater in his hands. “But this year’s my year. You’re already invited to dinner with us, so I wanted to include you.”
His eyes snapped up to John, sweater balanced delicately in his hands, and John paused. Cleared his throat as he looked him over, smiling just enough for him to notice it, as the warmth that filled Sharky’s chest nearly took his breath away.
“…To give you a chance to join us in that tradition as well, if you’d like. There’s no obligation to, however, and you’re more than welcome to stick to your usual-“
“Yeah, no, that’s-that’s cool!” he said, speaking up. “I want to. I really want to.”
He’d almost lost his voice for a second, but recovered fast. Even if the way John’s eyes lit up soon after hearing that nearly took him out all over again.
is it too late to ask 5 & 27 & G about calidus from that list drew posted?
It is never too late! 5 is Answered, but as for the rest...
27) What causes them to feel dread?
A lot of things, most of which I think boil down to lack of control, or things he couldn’t prepare for. He’ll spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder for people wanting to pay one back to the Legion, just to start. His role in the war in Flagstaff wasn’t a small one--who in the Mojave knows who he is? Who he was? Will they be careless with the knowledge? Hell, will he slip up and pronounce Caesar wrong someday, or know something else that only a Legionary should?
Looking to the future is just Fear Of Uncertainty writ large--he has no idea what he’s doing, helping to raise two kids. How can he keep them safe, in such a dangerous world? Are there threats to them he hasn’t thought about, and won’t know of until they’ve struck? Even in his day-to-day life, people seem to be living by sets of rules he’s never been let in on, having grown and lived too long outside of them. It’s a smaller dread, but a dread nonetheless, to imagine not picking up on something going unsaid by the people around him, and at best look like a fool, and at worst, end up the center of a fight.
G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
Calidus has...very little in the way of internal drive, to the point that me imagining what he’ll do with his life after seeing the Legion finally broken has been very difficult! For most of his life, he has relied on other people for direction and been part of a very rigid structure with clearly defined roles and goals, which was comfortable, in its way. Even his rebellion against it was for the sake of others. Stepping outside of that structure has left him, more or less, waiting on orders that will never come.
In addition to that inertia, there’s his general emotional repression and compartmentalization of everything that interfered with putting his head down and being a good Legionary. He’s spent so long shutting himself down that it’s upsetting and painful to start reintegrating all those parts of himself, and I imagine he’s too scared to even begin.
So to sum up? He’s narratively Stuck, until I can come up with circumstances dire enough to force him out of his slump. It would be a step backwards to force him into violence (say, the low-hanging fruit of someone threatening his kids) so I’m having to work through some post-Mojave-war worldbuilding to find a hook that will draw him back into the world, in a meaningful way.
"Don't give me that noble bullshit Lanza," Walker slams his fist on the table between them, "You're no saint, you just refuse to accept that devil side of yours."
Behind her, staring out the window into the darkness, Hill chuckles. She startled, forgetting just how silent the former ghost can move.
Considering this is technically his debut except for a joke post from months ago / a couple of “hey maybe I should” posts more recently:
Alec “AJ” Ryder Junior
Is the only Ryder sibling that takes his contempt for his parents beyond their graves. He had never - and will never forgive them for deciding to go through with the Andromeda Initiative without consulting the whole family. He had a good life before they signed up, and didn’t want to be the only family member left behind by 600 years, so he lost everything and holds them accountable for it.
