Redwall x men stuff @honey-minded-hivemind
Rough ideas so far. Im building an idea.
How lore heavy are you in redwall?
bloodweave x redwall 🦊🦦
This is inspired by @cyberdragoninfinity's posts, but I too ended up putting Michael (and Yuma who is not in this doodle) in Redwall-
(Though in this case he's just wholesale going through the plot of the first book.)
(Okay mostly based on the book version, I did use the Matthias backstory from the cartoon to explain where Michael's family is aka Cluney killed them. Sorry Arclight likers, I'm hitting Michael with the tragic orphan stick.)
have you seen this promo still from outlander? the prominent two front teeth?? i thought of 🐁james instantly
OHHH he's just a miouse your honour.... just a little mouse
Mist, Part One
During a harsh winter, Bluefen, daughter of Bowfleg and wife of Swartt Sixclaw the Warlord, gives birth to a daughter. She fades away and dies soon afterwards and for a long time it’s thought that the babe will follow her mother. Swartt doesn’t care one way or another.
The babe is given to an old rat to nurse. The rat doesn’t expect her charge to last long, and she’s surprised when the babe insists on clinging to life. Then again, she does have six tiny claws on her left forepaw. Maybe there’s something of her father in her.
-----
Swartt leads his army a little close to Redwall Abbey, and they’re driven away by a sneak attack from the otters and squirrels. The old rat is hit with a spear and she drops the babe, leaving her half-submerged in a little pool of water. The babe tries to get out, but she’s not strong enough.
Skipper and his otters find her. While a female otter is wrapping her up in a sling, Skipper notices the six claws on the babe’s paw and so does Redfarl. They share a look.
When they arrive at Redwall, it’s obvious that the babe has caught a chill. Bella and Meriam decide not to introduce her to the other inhabitants of the Abbey yet because they fear she might die – but she doesn’t.
They know the perfect person to take care of her.
“Oh, it’s a babe, a little one! Is it male or maid? What’s it called? Whose is it? Where did you get it from? Oh, Mother!”
“Hush, missie, maybe you won’t be so quick to cuddle her when I tell you.”
Bella tells Bryony that the ferretbabe is very small and sickly and will need lots of looking-after. “She shall be called Mist, because her past is shrouded in mist. We know nothing of her.”
Bella does not say: Or what she will become.
-----
Mist grows up with the other Redwall youngsters. She’s playful, if a little quiet, and prefers to stay close to Bryony than to anyone else.
Sometimes she dreams about a ferret like herself, dressed in blue, with light-grey fur and dark, sad eyes. She knows instinctively that this is her mother.
But Mist is also perceptive. She notices that even though the other creatures her age are happy to play with her, the adults look at her…differently. As if they don’t like her or if she’s done something wrong. But she hasn’t. She’s almost never naughty deliberately, but it doesn’t take her long to realise that her punishments always seem harsher compared to what everyone else gets.
She really doesn’t like the way Skipper and Redfarl keep looking at her. It frightens her. They frighten her.
Once, Mist asks Bryony why nobody likes her. Bryony hugs her tightly and says to ignore them. She likes her, and so does Togget, Bella and Abbess Meriam.
Mist isn’t so sure. She decides the best thing to do is keep her head down and be good. Maybe everyone will like her then.
They don’t.
-----
One day, Friar Bunfold’s honeypot goes missing. No matter how hard he looks, he can’t find it and assumes someone has taken it.
He assumes it was Mist.
Bryony is firmly on Mist’s side, saying she would never do such a thing. Bunfold is sceptical, and Skipper makes it clear that if it was Mist, she’ll be severely punished no matter what Bryony says.
The honeypot turns up by itself, completely untouched, in the last place Bunfold left it. He apologises to Mist, but she still feels sad. She’s out of place here, and she doesn’t feel like she really belongs in Redwall.
That evening, she takes a walk in the orchard before supper. It’s a beautiful afternoon, and the sun is just beginning to set.
“…doesn’t mean she won’t do anythin’. She’s a vermin, Sister. You know that.”
Mist’s heart catches in her chest. Silently, she creeps towards the voice.
“And that’s not all. Those six claws? There’s only one other vermin I know of who’s got ‘em. She’s the whelp of that other sixclawed vermin, Swartt the Warlord. Aye, the one who’s over at Salamandastron mountain right now fightin’ the great Badger Lord. That one’s got bad blood in her, and it’s only a matter o’time until it comes out.”
Mist chokes. Skipper and Sister Orris turn to see who’s there. Mist turns and runs away, ignoring their voices as they call after her. She finds a spot in the bushes and collapses, weeping.
If her father’s a monster…what does that make her?
She doesn’t know, but she does know one thing – she will never belong at Redwall. She’s an outcast here.
Mist dries her tears, her mind made up. She has to leave.
-----
There’s a knock on the door. “Mist! Suppertime!”
Mist freezes halfway through stuffing some clothes into a haversack. “I…I’m not feeling very well, Bryony. I think I’ve got a cold.”
She knows that’s enough to keep the mousemaid out. Whenever a cold spreads through Redwall Abbey, it almost always comes from Mist.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll bring you up a plate later, with some rhubarb and honey wine.”
Mist blinks back tears. “Thank you.”
“When you’re feeling better, go and find Skipper. He’d like to talk to you about something.”
When Bryony’s pawsteps have faded away, Mist resumes packing as fast as she can. The one precious thing she takes is a little bracelet made from glass beads – a present from Bryony and the only thing Mist can’t bear to leave behind. Then she takes out a quill and writes three notes, her heart breaking with every word.
Later, there’s another gentle knock on the door, followed by receding pawsteps. Mist opens the door and picks up the plate of food, calling: “Thank you, Bryony.” She eats as slowly as she can – it’s the last good meal she’ll have for a while, and her last taste of the only home she’s ever known.
-----
Mist creeps downstairs, terrified someone will catch her. She makes her way to the pantry and quietly puts some basic supplies – oatcakes, apples and some little cheeses – into her haversack. Leaving one of the notes in place of the missing oatcakes, she slinks out of the pantry and out of the largest window she can find.
The gardens are silent.
Mist hurries towards the gate and opens it as quietly as she can. She takes a deep breath and looks over her shoulder at the huge stone Abbey, black against the stars. Then she slips away into Mossflower Wood.
-----
Next morning, Bryony finds two notes on Mist’s bed.
