I haven’t posted a sketch dump in a long while, but this is because I haven’t bee doodling quite as much, having been focusing on my online comic Starboard for the last few months http://starboard.thecomicseries.com

However, I’ve also been developing a custom Redwall-focused tabletop role-playing system for the past year or so (it’s really more of a Frankenstein amalgamation of other rpg systems to be honest).

I think I’ve got the rules and mechanics for my rpg system finalized now, and I’m thinking of maybe formatting it all into one big proper rulebook/manual and printing it (for personal use). I’ve been wanting to draw some illustrations for it. So, most of these doodles are my efforts to get back into drawing more realistic anthropomorphic animal characters—and to literally “brush up” on my inking and crosshatching techniques—to draw something on par with the illustrations featured in the Redwall novels themselves.

I’d like to be able to distribute my custom rpg system to other Redwall fans, but I’m sure there would be some legal issues with that unfortunately.

Reminder about Mossflower RPG

I am updating exclusively on Discord now, check the notes for the link because I think tumblr isn’t letting things get tagged right if they have links.

If you like Redwall, have interest in my campaign or want to run your own, or you just want to be involved, you are welcome to come hang out, it’s kind of bare bones at the moment but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes and there’s going to be a lot more becoming available in the future.

not exactly an update. making up a mock up character sheet as a proof of concept. I learned a lot and I need to rethink some aspects of the layout of the character sheet itself, but from a gameplay standpoint... guys this could work.

Mini-Update 5-18-21

I made a blank character sheet for my Mossflower RPG. I’m super excited. I’ve got things going on this week but I hope to start planning a game soon! Also, I’m probably just going to update mainly on my discord server  from now on.

Mossflower RPG Update: Setting a date (and managing expectations)

I said when I started, I wouldn’t have anything ready before the end of January. Which is true. But now, just over halfway through the month of January, circumstances have changed slightly. Thus I have good news, and I have bad news.

The Good News: I have picked a week to start and have every thing ready to run a Session Zero. The actual date, obviously, will depend on who can participate and what their schedules allow.

The Bad News (kind of?): It’s the second week of March. March 7-13 will be the week that I will hold a Session Zero. (And I think the only reason that I think it’s bad new is because I thought I’d be able to do all this a lot sooner.)

In the meantime, I’m still going to be working on a few things for the game (a map for instance). If I get what everything I actually need to run a game ready ahead of time, I will probably run a one-shot just to kinda see if it actually works/if I can actually DM/if the world is irreparably broken.

If anyone is interested in either of those, message me, I’ll keep you posted. And if you want to keep updated or talk about ideas, whatever, I am going to start tagging these posts under the “Mossflower RPG” or “Redwall RPG” instead of cluttering up the Redwall tag. (additionally, I can @ you on relevant posts, if you want. Just putting that out there.)

Mossflower RPG Update 5-11-21 - Tentative return to planning?

I've been updating some of the Species Lists and things, and will probably continue to work on those but I forgot how much I've already done. I'm going to have a little more regularity with my free time in a couple weeks so... tentative plans to arrange a game.

When I feel I’m more ready to set up a game time, I'm going to set up a shared calendar and the people who want to be in a game will add their availability. And we'll go from there.
