Brainstorming
Since my critique I have been feeling a bit lost. I have felt like I need to ask myself. Why am I designing this pod?
It raises the issue that was brought up last semester in my research, do we sometimes need to step back and not design? When is it over designing.
I know from my research that the city offers its own restorative qualities. Wellington in particular is abundant with spaces you can go to rest and contemplate. The waterfront, cuba street all these spaces have their own restorative qualities.
What I am trying to bring to the table through these ‘escape pods’ are spaces where certain qualities of restoration are enhanced.
The contemplative pod with seating, offers a quiet more closed off environment for restorative moments. This is something that is not easily found in a city context. As many spaces do not offer moments of solo reflection.
The transition pod plays on a cities already existing transition spaces, and enhances this through its design.
The city watching pod plays on an activity that occurs in busy city spaces. We like to watch the city, as people walk by, the flurry of traffic. This is something I think is unique to busy city spaces. This pod plays on this opportunity by creating a space where you can feel free to watch the cities ebbs and flows.
By offering these 3 separate restorative experiences my pods are heavily informed by the sites they are in.
