Person A: Can’t you make a good and logical decision for once?! Person B: If I made ‘good and logical’ decisions, I would never have let you and your child take refuge with us. Honestly, you should be thankful I’m so impractical.

That refugee au! gah! like i just picture clarke experiencing first with Isla and then bringing Lexa into the fold and them becoming this cute family. Or the first time Isla calls Clarke Mommy! My heart!
I did the first time Isla calls Clarke “mommy” (in Trig), but here are some other firsts:
-Clarke giving Isla a bath for the first time. She still doesn’t know Isla’s name at this point. It’s their second night being home since coming from Germany. The first night they’d crashed in Clarke’s bed and fell asleep immediately. The next day is quiet and slow, both of them recuperating still and getting used to their new life. Isla doesn’t speak a lick of English, but Clarke talks to her constantly–just soft, sweet little things to let Isla know she’s not alone. Poor Isla is so nervous and unsure, she doesn’t eat for most of the day. But halfway through some kid’s movie on Netflix, Isla grows restless and fussy. Clarke smiles and kisses her on the head like, “finally hungry, huh?” Clarke sits Isla up on the counter while she goes through the cupboard for something Isla might like to eat. It takes a long time, but Isla finally settles on some Pediasure Clarke had picked up thinking it might be easiest for Isla to get used to, and it tastes like chocolate. Isla sips on it from a bottle in Clarke’s lap while they finish the movie. When she’s nice and warm and full Clarke takes her upstairs for a bath. She’s ever thankful for the gift basket from her friends that was waiting at home for her, filled with baby supplies, including shampoo. She’s gently cupping water over Isla’s head and running it through her soft, light brown hair when she suddenly has a PTSD flashback of cupping water in her hand up to Isla’s mouth from a spring while they were on the run in the woods, and hoping to god that it didn’t make Isla sick. They both had been dying from thirst and it was Clarke’s last ditch effort to keep them alive. Clarke comes out of the flashback quietly crying, shaking slightly. She scoops Isla out of the water and holds her close to her chest, not caring that it gets her all wet. Isla is sleepy and enjoys the comfort so she lays her little head down in the crook of Clarke’s neck and lets herself be held. It’s both sad and sweet and most of all it reminds them that they have each other.
-Their first trip to the park. Clarke’s super excited about the new stroller she bought so she gets Isla all dressed to go for a walk. Isla doesn’t speak English yet, but Clarke can tell she’s excited. Her little head swivels all around and she points at things and chatters happily. Clarke’s a little bit in love with it all and it becomes a daily routine. Sometimes Clarke sits on the bench and watches Isla run around, most of the time Clarke is right there running around with her.
-Isla’s first word in English. It’s the middle of the night, Isla is in Clarke’s bed, snuggled into Clarke’s side. The TV is on low and the light flickers in the room–sometimes it’s the only way they can sleep. Sleepy and warm, Isla lifts her head and looks around, fixating on the cartoon on the TV for a little while before tugging on Clarke’s shirt and pulling herself up onto Clarke’s chest. She pushes her warm little head under Clarke’s skin and holds Clarke’s shirt in her bunched fist. Half asleep, Isla sighs and whispers “Mommy.” They’d been working on it together ever since Lexa told her that “Noni” meant “mommy” in Trig. Isla hadn’t put the two together yet, but in the middle of the night, with Clarke sounds asleep and the TV murmuring low, Isla finally gets it.

National Hike with a Geek Day & World Refugee Day
Person A has to go on the run from their home country and ends up separated from most of their group and alone with the member who they thought was the most useless, Person B. But Person B turns out to be super good at underrated survivalist skills, and helps get the two through some very dangerous landscapes.
Person A is an immortal (albeit young for their species) being with magic and single parent/caregiver to a small child of their same species and fleeing from their homeland due to war/famine/etc. Person A tries to find a place devoid of human settlements to make a home for themself and the child. But the place they end up picking, high up in the mountains, is nearby a small and extremely isolated village of humans. Person B is a human from the village, belonging to the bloodline in the village of magic users, and often goes traveling in the mountains to collect materials for the rest of the villagers with their magic. Person B runs into Person A and the two are immediately wary of each other, but when Person B sees Person A use magic, they become curious. Person B has only ever known their family to use magic and no one else. So the two make a deal, Person B will keep Person A and their child’s existence a secret from the village, and Person A will teach Person B how to hone and expand their magical abilities.
