Fight Response
Summary: Riverdale, Reggie Mantle/Male reader soulmate AU where you feel each others pain
Soulmates always feel each other's physical pain; you’ve known this since you were around five. That was also when you discovered who your soulmate was; Reggie Mantle, the one northsider who seemed to get in more fights than any of the southsiders combined. Everyone joked about how he was too stupid to back down from a fight and that even the youngest Southsider knew better.
It was a running joke that Reggie should have been born on the southside and you always shrug it off, you think it would have made accepting him as your soulmate easier.
You’re thankful that you don’t get his bruises; although you get in your fair share of fights and you’re sure if you had to share bruises or scars you’d both have you fair share.
Reggie doesn't know; you’ve kept it that way, which wasn’t really hard to do, considering for now you were permanently in the southside.
Which changes when Southside High gets shut down. You’re now a Riverdale Bulldog.
At least this gives you a chance to get a better look at Reggie. You enjoy watching him when he has practice and you debate either joining the football team or even the River Vixens just to see more of him.
“Y/n you still pining over Mr. Reggie ‘100 percent straight football is life’ Mantle?” Fangs laughs and you scowl, swatting him.
“Shut up people are gonna find out!”
“Oh find out you’re pining after some sweaty bulldog football player? Everyone with eyes knows it; besides Reggie.” Fangs comments and you scowl.
“They don’t know the other thing?”
“No Y/N they don’t know he’s your soulmate.” Fangs says the last word muffled under your hand.
“They don’t know. Seriously Y/N I’m not going to blab about this; just like you won’t blab about mine.” Fangs almost warns you and you nod automatically; when you’d both been younger; when you’d discovered that both of you had Northsider soulmates. You’d sworn each other to secrecy and it helped that you were best friends anyways so nothing was awkward anyways, and most people either assumed you were each other's soulmates and never asked beyond that; or they, like most everyone else, assumed you had a soulmate somewhere else in the world. Most Serpents knew that their soulmate was a fellow Serpent pretty early on.
”Y/N right? Why don’t you try out for the football team?” Reggie’s been pretty much trying to recruit anyone that breathes and has an inch of muscle on them to be part of the football team. He’s clearly about to repeat his question but seems to realize you’re a serpent and scowls, before shaking his head.
“Nevermind.”
“Oh so what, a Serpent can’t play with the bulldogs?”
“You could if you were any good.” Reggie snaps and Chuck laughs shoving you back down into your seat; you think you see Reggie wince but ignore it.
You manage to ignore him until there’s some sort of fight and Fangs does try to keep you out of it but instead you find yourself pretty much on the front line watching Sweet Pea and Reggie beat the shit out of each other and you’re trying not to wince or scream at every hit that Reggie gets. You can see him watching you but his gaze also seems to glance around. He’s looking for your soulmate; idiot; you think before Sweet Pea hits Reggie’s jaw so hard you see stars.
”You were supposed to look out for him!” You snap at Fangs who laughs a little.
“I tried Y/N; it’s a little hard when Sweet Pea decided that Reggie is the one who was going to be on the receiving end of his anger.” You’re angry, and you know it makes you a little stupid but your jaw is still hurting so you don’t really care so you walk away from Fangs and the rest of the table at lunch.
Which is how you find yourself walking next to Reggie, you want to say something to him but debate it, he has a nasty black eye, you remember how Sweet Pea’s fist had felt even if he hadn’t hit you. You can tell Reggie is annoyed, if you were in his spot, having gotten beaten up and having the whole school practically watching it.
“Move.” He snaps and you try, which unfortunately means you have to cross in front of him. Before you know it you can feel your back hitting the edge of the locker.
“Fuck off snake.” You don’t feel much, just feel white hot pain, the telltale sign your soulmate is the one causing it. You blink, finally not seeing spots in your vision, just to see Reggie staring horrified. He doesn’t shove you again, you know it would hurt him just as much, but he glares.
“Stay the fuck away from me.” Before he storms off clearly gearing up to spread a rumor about you.
