“Legs.” Abolish's voice was tight with grief, facing the older man. He didn't know where they were, but he could see his sire the doctor facing them.
“Abolish.” Legs responded, his voice tired, but warm. “Hi.”
Abolish looked around, but there was nothing but darkness surrounding them. “Where are we?” He asked. “Is this… real?”
Legs stepped closer to him. “It is. I… asked to see you again. After dying.”
Abolish looked confused. “I- What? What do you mean you asked for me?”
Legs laughed quietly. “Right, I should probably explain.” He said, sitting down. “Ten years after you die, you get to choose one person to visit who's still living.” He paused. “Well, I did at least, not sure if it's a universal thing or not.”
Abolish sat down across from the doctor. “Okay… why me?” He asked hesitantly.
“Abolish…” Legs sighed, putting a hand on the younger man's knee. “I'm so sorry.” He said quietly.
Immediately, Abolish turned their head away, hiding the tears brimming in his eyes. “Don't say that.” He choked out. “That's not fair.”
“Oh, Abolish.” Legs said, moving closer to him. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Abolish. God…” He said, pulling Abolish into a hug.
Something in Abolish broke, as he gripped Legs tightly, halfway in his lap. “You left me…” He whined.
“I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Abolish, I wasn't thinking. I didn't realize it would hurt you so badly.” Legs said, running his hand through their hair.
Abolish fisted Legs’ coat in his fists, refusing to let him leave again.
“We can stay here as long as you need, okay?” Legs said softly. “Time outside will wait for us.”
“I can stay?” He asked quietly, tucking his head under Legs’ chin.
“You can stay.” Legs confirmed. “Stay as long as you want.” He paused. “... We probably have a lot to talk about anyways, huh.” He smiled sadly, brushing Abolish's hair back from their face.
“Mhm.” Abolish mumbled. “... You first.” He said.
Legs laughed quietly. “Fair enough.” He let out a breath. “God, where do I start…” He said, his smile fading.
“Probably with the horrible things you've apparently done?” Abolish suggested, regretting it when Legs flinched slightly. “Sorry…” They mumbled.
Legs sighed. “No, you're right… You know how I was in the war. Mostly, I was a doctor, but… I also was a poisoner.” He said quietly, his voice thick with guilt. “I would poison the food and water supplies of towns, sometimes leading them to… commit cannibalism.” He cleared his throat. “In total, I've killed 6,131 people.” He whispered.
Abolish stayed quiet for a moment. “When I asked about cannibalism… and getting rid of the vampires’ food…” He said quietly.
Legs swallowed through the lump in his throat. “Yeah.”
“... I'm sorry.” Abolish said quietly.
“You're sorry? Abolish, I'm- Awful!” Legs protested.
“Well- Sure, but I knew that already.” Abolish said. “It's not like I've never killed someone, anyways. And I didn't mean to upset you.” He said, pulling back a bit to look up at Legs. “So, I'm sorry for that.” They concluded.
“You're… odd.” Legs settled on. “Not in a bad way, just… Who finds out about someone being a mass murderer and apologizes for upsetting them?” He said, sounding bemused.
“Me, clearly.” Abolish mumbled. “What about you and Owen?” He asked, twisting Legs’ coat in their fingers.
“Owen…” Legs mused. “He… I think he thought I was a better man than I was. Felt betrayed when he found out all that I've done.”
Abolish nodded. “He told me a bit about the guy who turned him, apparently he was a really kind person, didn't hurt anyone. I think he wanted you to be like him.”
Legs hummed. “That makes sense, I guess. He turned me after I let him drink some of my blood, it let him see some of my memories. I think it was his form of revenge. Wanted me to… kill everyone, I guess.”
“You kind of did the opposite.” Abolish remarked. “... Tried to, at least.”
“Yeah… I didn't want to prove him right.” Legs said quietly.
“What… Why did you choose to do that, Legs? We could have all left as vampires…” They asked, looking up at him with watery eyes.
Legs let out a sharp breath. “I… I don't know, really. I… didn't think I deserved to live eternally, I suppose.”
“So instead I had to deal with being turned, my sire dying, and then being cured in like thirty minutes?” He protested. “... That's not fair.” He said quietly.
Legs held him a bit closer. “I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, Abolish, I had no idea it was going to affect you like that. If I'd known I never would have done it.”
Abolish sniffed. “Promise?” They asked in a small voice.
“I promise.” Legs replied immediately. “I didn't know that was what your sire dying was meant to feel like that, Owen dying barely even affected me. I guess because we weren't on good terms?” He theorized.
“Think it's because I barely had time to fully turn.” Abolish mumbled. “Cause you spent some time as a vampire, but my fangs hadn't even come in yet.”
Legundo held the back of Abolish's head, leaning his forehead against the younger man's. “Oh, Abolish…” He sighed, lifting them into his arms to move them both onto the couch that appeared before them. “I never wanted to hurt you…”
“... You said time won't move while I'm here, right?” They asked.
“Yeah, that's right.” Legs said.
“Then you have plenty of time to make up for it.” Abolish decided.
Legs smiled, looking amused. “Is that so?” He asked, shifting Abolish back into his lap.
“Uh huh.” Abolish nodded, wrapping his arms around Legs and resting their head on his chest.
“Well, I suppose I better get started on that, hm?” Legs asked, lightly scratching Abolish's scalp as he ran a hand through their hair. “You will have to go back eventually, you know?”
“Shh…” Abolish said. “We don't have to worry about that yet.” He said decisively.
Legs smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of Abolish's head. “Alright, Abolish.” He said, looking content as he rested his head on top of his fledgling's head. “We'll just rest for now.”
