The Star of Azazel: A Philosophical-Occult Brotherhood

The Star of Azazel is a philosophical and occult organization whose central aim is to reconcile various, even seemingly opposing, forms of spiritual seeking. It does so by drawing together principles from Theosophy, traditional occultism, and a theistic form of Satanism. Unlike many esoteric schools, the Star of Azazel views Satanic philosophy not as inherently evil but as a constructive, sacred, and intellectually respectable path.

Origins and Evolution

The philosophical foundation of the Star of Azazel was outlined in 1999 in the work Polyharmonia, and the society was officially founded in 2006. Since 2018, the organization has adopted a decentralized model based on the idea of an open ideological system. While the formal society has been dissolved, its spiritual brotherhood lives on.

The organization's core beliefs are structured around seven foundational principles and three theosophical objectives. These serve as a framework for the group's spiritual, ethical, and metaphysical teachings.

Foundational Philosophy

At the heart of the Star of Azazel lies a synthesis of esoteric wisdom traditions. The theological orientation is rooted in theistic Satanism, sharing views with early Gnostic Christianity, while its esoteric dimension draws heavily from the Theosophical movement initiated by Helena Blavatsky in the late 19th century.

The Seven Foundational Principles

Divinity is Absolute  Spirit underlies all material phenomena and acts as their inner logic and guide. Nature and God are not dualistic, and the highest truth cannot be personified.

Truthfulness is the Highest Duty  All actions should align with a holistic understanding and aim to deepen it. Religious feeling is beautiful, but faith should not replace reason. Honest reasoning leads to a greater world than any ideology be it materialist or fanatically religious.

Satan Is Not Evil  Associating the name Satan with absolute evil is a mistake. No truly high cosmic intelligence seeks suffering or moral degradation. Satan is a multifaceted divine being, deserving of respect and reverent devotion never immoral worship.

Evil Is the Result of Error  Evil arises from misunderstanding or partial truth. True knowledge and genuine love go hand in hand. A lack of empathy signifies deficient spiritual understanding.

Self-Responsibility is Essential  No external savior, whether religious or secular, can truly redeem or empower a person. Every real transformation must come from within.

Life and Death are Equal in Value Both are part of a greater process of transformation. In a world that overvalues physical life and fears death, balance is found in understanding the beauty of darkness and death.

The Spiritual Key is Triune  Represented as a triangle, this key is found symbolically in various religious trinities. Its aspects are Understanding, Love, and Will-to-Act-Righteously. Actively applying these leads to rapid spiritual growth, regardless of temperament or background.

Structure: Society and Brotherhood

The Star of Azazel differentiates between two levels of engagement: the Society and the Brotherhood. While these terms are often used interchangeably, they refer to distinct levels of commitment:

The Society is open to those interested in esoteric exploration through study and interaction.

The Brotherhood is reserved for individuals who embody the ideals through deep personal transformation and dedication.

Joining the society typically involves applying through a looshi (a local lodge), each of which sets its own requirements. However, general criteria include:

Agreement with the group’s founding principles and theosophical goals

Commitment to nonviolence and apolitical activity

Legal adulthood

A letter of intent, including personal background and spiritual motivation

Brotherhood and Esoteric Work

The Brotherhood is not a social club nor a hierarchical cult. It is a spiritual collective of Egos (higher selves), not personalities. Members must be aligned with the inner ideals of the organization and actively work toward their realization.

This spiritual union involves:

Energetic Responsibility  Members connect on higher levels (ātma-buddhi-manas), not merely emotional or intellectual.

Tension and Growth  Participation generates inner tension that surfaces unresolved emotions, which must be consciously addressed for group harmony.

Ego Over Personality  Brotherhood members engage with each other’s souls, not their outer personas. The group is not a support system for egos but a field for Egoic cooperation.

Guarding the Spiritual Core  If a member harbors concealed malice toward the group or its ideals, separation may occur immediately to protect the esoteric work. This is not about superficial behavior but about the deeper spiritual alignment.

The inner workings of the Brotherhood blend anarchy and hierarchy, recognizing that a spiritual order cannot function as a democracy. It must follow occult principles where vibrational harmony, not popularity or consensus, determines spiritual progress.

A Living Philosophy

If the original structure of the Star of Azazel ceases to express its inner spirit, that spirit will simply manifest elsewhere, in a new form. The organization is not sacred in itself only the ideal is. Like salt that has lost its taste, a lifeless structure must be discarded. The goal is always inner transformation, not institutional allegiance.

So long as individuals walk their paths toward Truth and Divinity toward Ego and God the work continues. The inspiration flows from the world of ideas to living centers, under any name. That power cannot be deceived.

Azazelin Tähti on filosofis-okulttinen järjestö, jonka tavoitteena on yhdistää erilaiset ja usein vastakkaisina pidetyt henkisen etsinnän muodot yhteiseen pohdintaan, itsetuntemukseen ja totuuden tavoitteluun. Järjestön perusta nojaa seitsemään perusperiaatteeseen sekä teosofian kolmeen ohjelmakohtaan, jotka muodostavat sen henkisen ytimen. Toisin kuin perinteiset teosofiset seurat, Azazelin Tähti suhtautuu myönteisesti satanistiseen filosofiaan, jota se käsittelee eettisenä, älyllisenä ja hengellisenä voimana, ei pahuuden ilmentymänä.

Perustaminen ja kehitys

Järjestön filosofinen pohja hahmoteltiin jo vuonna 1999 kirjoitetussa teoksessa Polyharmonia, ja sen virallinen perustuskirja allekirjoitettiin vuonna 2006. Vaikka seura on muodollisesti lopetettu, sen henkinen veljeskunta jatkaa toimintaansa elävänä.

Henkinen perusta ja maailmankuva

Azazelin Tähden maailmankatsomus pohjaa teistiseen satanismiin, jossa Saatanaa ei nähdä pahuuden perikuvana, vaan monikasvoisena, jumalallisena olentona, joka voi johdattaa totuuden, empatian ja viisauden äärelle. Filosofiassa on vaikutteita mm. varhaiskristillisestä gnostilaisuudesta ja Blavatskyn 1800-luvulla perustamasta teosofisesta liikkeestä. Jumaluus käsitetään absoluuttiseksi ja kaiken läpäiseväksi, eikä persoonalliseksi olennoksi. Luonto ja jumaluus nähdään yhtenä kokonaisuutena, jossa henki toimii aineen sisäisenä ohjaajana.

Seitsemän perusperiaatetta

Absoluuttinen Jumaluus: Jumala ei ole persoonallinen olento vaan kaikkeuden taustalla vaikuttava henki.

Totuudellisuus: Henkinen kasvu perustuu rehelliseen tiedon etsintään ja järjen käyttöön.

Saatanan uudelleentulkinta: Saatanaa ei tule nähdä pahuutena, vaan viisautena ja eettisenä voimana.

Pahan luonne: Paha on seurausta puutteellisesta ymmärryksestä; rakkaus ja tieto kulkevat käsi kädessä.

Itsevastuu: Todellinen kasvu lähtee ihmisestä itsestään, ei ulkoisista pelastajista.

Elämän ja kuoleman merkitys: Kuolema on olennainen osa luonnollista kiertoa, eikä sitä tule pelätä.

Kolminainen avain: Henkinen kehitys pohjautuu ymmärrykseen, rakkauteen ja tahdonvoimaan toimia oikein.

Jäsenyys ja looshit

Azazelin Tähteen voi liittyä itsenäisesti toimivien looshien kautta. Jokainen looshi määrittää itse omat jäsenkriteerinsä, mutta yleisesti edellytetään seuraavia asioita:

Perusperiaatteiden ja teosofisten lähtökohtien hyväksyminen

Poliittisen vaikuttamisen ulkopuolelle jättäminen

Väkivallattomuuden ihanteen noudattaminen

Täysi-ikäisyys

Jäsenhakemus on vapaamuotoinen ja toimitetaan postitse. Siihen tulee sisältyä henkilöesittely, motivaatio liittymiselle, aatteen allekirjoitus, vakaumuksellinen tausta sekä allekirjoitus.

Seura vai veljeskunta?

Azazelin Tähti käyttää kahta termiä seura ja veljeskunta lähes synonyymeinä, mutta niiden välillä on ero:

Seura on avoimempi, suunnattu henkisesti etsiville ihmisille.

Veljeskunta on sisäpiiri, johon kuuluvat aatteelle omistautuneet yksilöt, jotka tekevät aktiivista henkistä työtä sydämellään ja omalla vastuullaan.

Veljeskunnan jäsenyys ei tuo erityisiä ulkoisia etuja eikä statusarvoa, vaan vaatii idealistista omistautumista ja aatteen todellista sisäistä elämistä. Veljeskunnassa korostuu sielullinen yhteys veljien välillä ei persoonallinen verkostoituminen. Siksi veljeskunta ei toimi kuten tavanomainen yhdistys tai esoteerinen seura.

Yhteistyö ja eettisyys

Veljeskunnan jäsenet nähdään sielullisina olentoina, ei persoonallisuuksina. Tärkeintä on henkinen resonanssi muiden jäsenten kanssa: rakkaus, ymmärrys ja tahto totuuteen. Jos jäsen ei toimi aidolla sydämellä, vaan pelkästään nimellisesti tai vastustavasti, hänen läsnäolonsa voi vahingoittaa koko ryhmää. Tästä syystä veljeskunnan sisäisessä piirissä voi olla tarpeen katkaista yhteys jäseneen, jonka vaikutus on haitallinen. Tällöin toimitaan intuition ja henkisen linjan mukaisesti, ei demokraattisesti tai muodollisesti.

Kuolematon aate

Vaikka Azazelin Tähti seura saattaa organisaationa päättyä, sen aatteellinen ydin ei voi kuolla. Okkulttinen idea siirtyy aina uusiin muotoihin, kunhan yksilöt säilyttävät yhteyden Egoonsa, sisäiseen henkiseen ytimeensä. Seura itsessään on vain väline muoto, joka elää niin kauan kuin sen kautta palvellaan totuutta ja kehitystä.

How I became an atheist

I was born in a religious country (Russia), in a religious household. But not only religious, also very superstitious. The men in my family folowed the Russian tradition of not being involved in child’s education so, as many other children I was brought up by my mother and grandmother. My grandmother always attended church (christian orthodox) and usually brought me up with her to the mass. She never bothered to explain much. I was given a book called ‘Bible for children’ which I adored because it had a beautiful illustration on each page along with a wonderful story and I’ve always loved a good story. I never understood what purposes the church services served, I remember watching the painting of a woman in the church and always thinking it was the holy trinity because I never understood the concept. I don’t recall us ever talking about religion or God I just know that at a very young age it was established that God exists, and I only remember my grandmother talking about angels that always protect us. Surprisingly, strong belief in christian God didn’t stop my grandmother from believing in Chinese medicine, numerology and other nonsense. Still to this day she buys lunar calendars, assigns great meaning to the Chinese new year, reads books on parapsychology, etc. My mother, on the other hand, looked for other ways to understand the world. She tried all sorts of cults. From some protestant churches - which she attended briefly wanting to protect myself from the dangers of the world by finding me “trustworthy Christian” friends - to Jehova’s witnesses (whose literature I read with great interest always finding it amazing how their beliefs differed from the ones I was brought up with but also seemed to make sense in a way), passing by Emmanuel Swedenborg - whom she considered (and maybe still considers) the only true prophet who could talk to people living on other planets. During the coming of age I wanted to make sense of it all on my own, I read literature on ancient religions (Greek, Nordic, Celtic, Hinduism…) because I really wanted to know how this world was created. I started to attend church willfully and attended a course on religion teached at the local church (still russian orthodox - while I was living in France). Russian orthodox priests are so special, they are so sure that their religion is the only true one, they under no circumstances want to talk about the parallels with other belief systems; which was not suitable for me because I was convinced that everything was connected and the truth was still “out there”. Funny thing - being so convinced astrology was real I was always surprised when I heard my French friends say that they didn’t believe in it. But being born “in the greatest country and religious system in the world” I never for a minute doubted my beliefs and thought that those French people just didn’t know better. Along with continuing my research I started to attend pagan meetups which were held roughly every month, even attended a meditation in the forest which was rather nice. They were completely different from what I expected - they didn’t care whether god existed or not - they related to the energy (or energies) “existing in the universe” and it was all about connecting with oneself and/or nature. Very nice people, but still - no answer on how the world was created and what is the meaning of life and why there are so many religions in the world. The more I searched the less I found. I still believed in god and everything else just didnt know how to get to “the truth”. Everything changed when I came back to Russia. Having left it as a teenager I couldn’t compare the life I lived in France as a young adult with my native country, and that’s partly why I wanted to go back. And I’m glad I did. People are so hopeless here but they also believe life has a purpose and they are just destined to live how they do. So much apathy. So much superstition. No initiative to change anything at all. That’s when it hit me - the French aren’t “strange” they just believe you can do anything if you put your mind and effort into it. The Russians believe in nothing. If anything happens it’s because it’s “supposed to”. There’s no responsibility for your actions, no need to do anything because everything is how it is - and religion is greatly responsible for this mindset. At this point I started questioning it all. I guess a part of me always did because I was always interested in science, read books on physics and cosmology and even attended a few conferences but in my mind science was always just a way to prove that everything my religious beliefs told me was true. Still as part of my research I bought “The Selfish gene” by Richard Dawkins, it was so well written and I found it curious that he was an atheist and even wrote a book about it, so I decided to check it out. Now, I won’t say “The God delusion” changed my life - rather dissipated the few doubts I had left and convinced me that accepting there is no god doesn’t make you a bad person, and there IS a meaning to life if you want to make one.

As a kid and teenager I used to have horrible nightmares where demons and witches were chasing me, I used to wake up terrified, trying to figure out what I did wrong, always stressing myself. I don’t have then anymore because now I understand that none of it is real.

I think about my past a lot (quarter-life crisis is real) and regret on the time I wasted waiting for my destiny to reveal itself to me. For 20+ years I’ve done nothing important, didn’t invest myself in anything I was passionate about because I was tought you have to have “a special gift” to do something. Now, I’m trying to make up for the time lost but it’s hard because I now have a job and a few responsibilities to manage, and the people surrounding me (especially my family) are religious and it’s impossible for them to understand what I went through. They say I have to “attein a certain age“ to understand religion and what it means and they disregard my protests and don’t want to listen about the hell I was living in.

Please, don’t allow unreal things to influence your life, it’s all in your head and you just have to analyze your worries and let them go. The world is still a beautiful place full of magic but this magiс is governed by the laws of physics/chemistry/biology. 

P.S. I wanted to write this story for quite some time because I see a lot of people in the same place I was at, trying to find the meaning of it all wasting time and money in useless pseudoscience books and teachings, convinced they know better. And I don’t think I can make them think otherwise, they have to come to this understanding on their own. (I really hope this post will help you even just a little bit.) And to the people who think all religious people are stupid - please don’t, it’s a matter of education and cultural surroundings - attacking them won’t make them change their mind - rather the opposite.

Éliphas Lévi – A Founding Figure of Modern Occultism

Éliphas Lévi Zahed (born Alphonse Louis Constant, February 8, 1810 – May 31, 1875) was a French esotericist, poet, and writer who is recognized as a key architect of modern Western occultism. He left a career in the Catholic priesthood to dedicate himself to ceremonial magic, Kabbalah, and the occult sciences. His writings and teachings had a profound impact on Western esoteric thought, including the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Aleister Crowley.

Early Life and Turn to Occultism

Lévi was born in Paris into a shoemaker’s family and began theological studies at the Saint Sulpice Seminary. He was ordained a deacon and taught catechism but abandoned the priesthood just a week before full ordination. This decision led to hardship and poverty, and his experiences within the Church left a lasting mark on his worldview. Nevertheless, he continued to explore spiritual questions throughout his life.

In the 1830s and 1840s, Lévi was active in socialist and mystical movements. His imprisonment in 1841 for publishing La Bible de la liberté marked a shift toward more radical thinking. It was in the 1850s that he made his decisive turn toward esotericism and occultism.

Occult Teacher and Writer

Lévi adopted the pen name Éliphas Lévi by rendering his given names into Hebrew. Over the years, he published more than 20 works, with the most well-known being Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (1854–1856) and La Clef des Grands Mystères (1861). In his books, Lévi sought to unify religion, science, and philosophy into what he called "true magic."

He regarded "astral light," "will," and "imagination" as the cornerstones of magical practice. According to Lévi, these forces enabled spiritual mastery over the world when properly harnessed. He believed occultism was not merely a collection of rituals, but a comprehensive system that harmonized human nature, celestial forces, and divine reason.

Critique of Spiritualism

Though spiritualism was popular in Lévi’s time, he was critical of it. He claimed that after death, only mental images and "astral forces" remain not independent spirits, as spiritualists claimed. This view distinguished Lévi from other contemporary mediums and reinforced his position as a philosophically grounded occultist.

Ceremonial Magician and Legacy

In 1854, Lévi traveled to London, where his reputation as a ceremonial magician began to grow. Though initially skeptical of ritual magic due to its cost and complexity, he eventually acquired a complete "magical cabinet" and began practicing magic more actively. This cemented his role as a respected occult teacher in both France and England.

Lévi was the first to associate the orientation of the pentagram with moral significance: upright representing good, inverted representing evil. This interpretation became a lasting feature of Western esoteric symbolism.

Political Background and Occultism

Historically, Lévi was seen as someone who abandoned his socialist past for occultism. However, recent scholarship particularly by Julian Strube reveals that Lévi’s esoteric ideas were deeply rooted in his socialist and anti-clerical background. He viewed magic as a means to build a new spiritual social order, one led by enlightened leaders guiding the "blind masses."

Legacy

Éliphas Lévi’s influence extended long after his death. His works inspired Theosophical Society founder Helena Blavatsky and many 20th-century occultists. He is considered a systematizer of Western esotericism and a modernizer of occult philosophy. Lévi’s life’s work was not entertaining magic, but a spiritual science, which he believed could unite religion and science—humanity and divinity.

Misanthropic Luciferian Order, MLO

The Temple of the Black Light: Followers of the Dark Light, Chaos, and Satan

The Temple of the Black Light (formerly known as the Misanthropic Luciferian Order, MLO) was a satanic occult order founded in Sweden in 1995 that shocked the world with its dark and extreme philosophical combination. This mysterious group never grew large, but it left a significant mark on the darkest pages of history. What was it all about? And why did its teachings and actions attract so much attention?

Origins and Members

Initially, the group consisted of three members: Vlad (whose real name was Shahin Khoshnood), Jon Nödtveidt, and a third member who left the group early on. Johan Norman joined at the same time as Jon, but he left when Vlad and Jon began discussing violent acts. Vlad’s girlfriend later joined as a supporting member. The small but tight-knit group never expanded after two of its original members left.

The group’s symbol was unique: the three original members tattooed themselves with a "vampire pentagram" on their forearms, which Vlad had designed. This tattoo was more than just a symbol it was a mark of loyalty and membership, uniting them in a shared, dark ideology.

Liber Azerate and the Birth of Chaosophy

In 2002, The Temple of the Black Light released Liber Azerate, a modern grimoire written by the group’s founder, Vlad. This work brought the group to international attention. Liber Azerate contained secrets and teachings about the "eleven anti-cosmic gods," which were central to the group's philosophy.

Vlad’s collaboration with Nödtveidt extended into music as well: Dissection’s 2006 album Reinkaos was influenced by the teachings of Liber Azerate. Jon Nödtveidt himself stated that the album’s lyrics were directly inspired by MLO’s doctrines.

Chaos-Gnostic Satanism or Current 218 was the belief system promoted by the group, combining chaos philosophy and gnostic traditions with satanic ideology. The members believed that chaos was the only true force in the universe, limitless and eternally changing.

Beliefs and Doctrine: Chaos, the Forces of Chaos, and the End of the World

The Temple of the Black Light's teachings went far beyond conventional satanism. They believed in a concept called "chaosophy," which held that the biblical creation of Adam and Eve, and the existence of the Abrahamic God who created the universe, were a mistake. Unlike followers of Abrahamic faiths, they rejected this God and sought to see the creation itself undone, hoping to destroy it or cause its non-existence through magic and rituals.

"Chaos" was described as an infinite, timeless, and pandimensional realm, unlike the "cosmos," which had only three spatial dimensions and one linear time dimension. According to the group, chaos was timeless and unbound by the constraints of linear time, and it was formless due to its ever changing and limitless number of spatial dimensions.

Internally, the group taught militant neo-gnosticism and misanthropy, claiming that a true Satanist should not be part of modern society, as it was founded on lies. They argued that the very fabric of this reality was a lie, hindering chaos from realizing itself.

The three dark veils before Satan, according to their belief system, represented three forces expelled from Ain Sof to make way for the manifestation of "Black Light" in the "outer darkness," which later became known as Sitra Ahra:

000 – Tohu – Formless Chaos: Qemetiel ("crown of gods")

00 – Bohu – Emptiness/Nothingness: Belial ("without god")

0 – Chasek – Darkness: Aathiel ("uncertainty")

These forces could be seen as the burning trident held high above Thaumielitan. They could also be interpreted as wrathful reflections of Ain, Ain Sof, and Ain Sof Aur.

Criminal Activities: The Dark Side of MLO

Although The Temple of the Black Light's philosophies and beliefs were radical, the group was also involved in shocking and disturbing criminal activities. In 1997, just before the group disbanded, two of its members Vlad and Jon Nödtveidt murdered Josef Ben Meddour. The police classified the act as a homophobic hate crime.

During the investigation, the police found satanic altars in the homes of Vlad and Nödtveidt, along with a human skull in Vlad's home. Vlad was charged with possessing human body parts. According to the police, the cult never had more than a handful of followers.

In the course of their investigations, the police interrogated an early former member of The Temple of the Black Light and Vlad's girlfriend (who had reported him for domestic abuse). They described the organization's occult ceremonies, which included meditation, invocations of demons, and animal sacrifices especially cats, which Vlad had bought through classified ads.

In the weeks leading up to Josef Ben Meddour’s murder, Vlad became increasingly extreme in his rhetoric, and the idea of performing human sacrifices followed by mass suicide was discussed at length. At a meeting in Nödtveidt's home, a list of potential victims was drawn up, which included a former follower who had defected, members of the band Dissection, and even Nödtveidt’s girlfriend.

These plans led to the defection of some members of the Temple of the Black Light, who did not want to participate in any killings or feared for their lives. As a result, when arrests were made, the number of active members had dropped to three: Nödtveidt, Vlad, and Vlad’s girlfriend.

Legacy and Aftermath

Although The Temple of the Black Light disbanded and left behind only dark memories, its influence on occultism and satanism has not disappeared. The group’s teachings, along with its "chaosophic satanism" and ties to violence and extremism, continue to spark debate. What remains is a grim reminder of how radical beliefs can lead to destruction both at the individual and community level.

The legacy of The Temple of the Black Light is an inseparable part of satanic culture’s history, and while its shadow may have faded, its teachings and the deep chaosophic thinking behind them still live on for those brave enough to examine its black mark on the world.

Pu Yi – The Last Emperor of China and the Slow Dusk of an Empire

The life of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, reads like a sweeping historical drama filled with splendor, loss of power, forced modernisation, and personal transformation. His story is a stark reminder of how quickly history can turn against a ruler and how a person can ultimately become someone entirely different from what fate once seemed to dictate.

Pu Yi was born in 1906 into the Aisin Gioro clan, the Manchu family that founded the Qing dynasty. At only two years old, he was placed on the Dragon Throne as the Xuantong Emperor. In practice, however, he never ruled: true power rested with Empress Dowager Longyu and influential court officials.

In 1912 the Qing dynasty collapsed, giving way to the Republic of China. Pu Yi was forced to abdicate but was allowed to remain in the Forbidden City, living in a kind of gilded captivity an emperor without an empire. He grew up entirely isolated from the real world, surrounded by the remnants of an ancient court while China outside underwent rapid modernisation, political fragmentation, and foreign pressure.

In 1924, warlords expelled him from the Forbidden City for good. Pu Yi fled to Tianjin, where Imperial Japan saw him as a useful symbol. When Japan established the puppet state of Manchukuo in 1932, Pu Yi was installed as its leader first as the head of state and later as “emperor.” In reality, he was controlled completely by the Japanese military, a mere marionette rather than a monarch.

After World War II, Pu Yi was captured by the Soviet Union and eventually handed over to the newly formed People’s Republic of China. Surprisingly, the communist government did not execute the former emperor. Instead, he was sent to a reeducation camp where he spent years learning to become a “citizen of the new China.”

Upon his release, Pu Yi lived a quiet, humble life as a gardener and later as an employee at Beijing’s botanical gardens a man surrounded by the ruins of the once-mighty imperial world he had been born to rule. He died in 1967 at the age of 61.

Pu Yi’s life traces an extraordinary arc: from the splendor of imperial China through its collapse, the chaos of war and occupation, and into the birth of communist China. He was an emperor whose power was always exercised by others and a man who found a measure of peace only after being stripped of all the roles that had once defined him.

Aleister Crowley’schildhood 

Aleister Crowley’s (born Edward Alexander Crowley) childhood was full of contradictory influences and early signs of his future personality and thinking. His family was wealthy and belonged to the religiously ultraconservative Plymouth Brethren, whose members believed in a literal interpretation of the Bible and awaited Judgment Day. Christmas celebrations were forbidden, and the days began with Bible readings even for the household staff.

Relationship with His Father

Aleister’s father, Edward, was his great hero and role model. Edward was the heir to a wealthy brewing family but never worked; instead, he dedicated himself to religious work. He was an itinerant preacher and spiritual leader, whom Aleister admired especially for his oratory skills and ability to influence people. The young Aleister accompanied his father and absorbed not only theological doctrines but also evangelizing techniques. His father's death in 1887, when Aleister was eleven, marked a turning point: it initiated his departure from childhood beliefs and a gradual shift toward rebellion and occultism.

Crowley later claimed to have foreseen both his father’s and mother’s deaths in dreams experiences he would later use to justify his inclination toward mysticism and "natural magic."

Relationship with His Mother

Crowley’s relationship with his mother, Emily, was difficult and emotionally charged. He described her as fanatical, cold, and humorless, and felt deep contempt for her. Although in his youth he wrote to her regularly and appeared dutiful, his later writings reveal disgust and bitterness. In one instance, he saved his mother from the edge of a cliff, but later called the act a “regrettably impulsive humane deed” that he felt was out of character. This reflects a rejection of empathy and emotional coldness in his relationship with his mother.

Early Personality Traits

As a child (then called Alick, a name he disliked), Crowley was outwardly well-behaved, but his imagination already revealed traits that foreshadowed his future thinking:

The Bible, the only permitted reading material, had a profound influence on him. He identified with the evil figures in Revelation, such as the dragon, the beast, and the Whore of Babylon early indications of his future antinomian (rule-defying) philosophy.

He later admitted to being a "natural masochist," and sadomasochistic fantasies began in childhood, including in play with his cousin.

He also displayed sadistic tendencies: for instance, in games where he identified with the Indian rebel Nana Sahib, he fantasized about torturing prisoners or being tortured himself.

Theatricality and role-playing were part of his early inclinations: he impersonated famous figures and continually created new roles for himself a practice that continued throughout his life.

He saw himself as "abnormally normal" a seemingly well-adjusted child whose inner world was full of contradictions and strange impulses.

Social Environment

When he was six, the family moved to Redhill, and Aleister received homeschooling like other children of Plymouth Brethren families. He did not attend public school, which likely reinforced his sense of separateness. He and other sect children called local kids returning from school “mokes” and ambushed them from the bushes an illustration of both elitism and isolation.

These Masters are not mythical figures but real entities who have reached the pinnacle of human spiritual development and now serve as guides for those who are ready to walk the path of illumination. They do not impose their teachings but offer them to sincere seekers.

Teosofia, sananmukaisesti "jumalviisaus", ei ole pelkkä uskomusjärjestelmä tai filosofinen suuntaus, vaan ikiaikainen totuus, joka paljastaa maailmankaikkeuden perimmäiset lait.
