Spanish Floral Tiara
Origin: wedding present from dictator Francisco Franco to Queen Sofía on behalf of the Spanish people in 1962. Its origin is not 100% certain. Some speculated it was bought from a Russian jewellery, others say it was bought by King Alfonso XII de España (great-grandfather of Juan Carlos) as a wedding gift to his wife, María Cristina of Austria. However, they were forced to sold it when exiled in 1930. For the latter version of the origin history, the tiara was creted in 1879 by the British jewellery J.P. Collins.
It's a convertible piece. It can be worn as a necklace or split into 3 brooches.
Queen Sofía wore the tiara in its necklace form for her pre-wedding dinner gala:
She later lent the tiara to Queen Letizia, then Princesa de Asturias, and she still does wear it nowadays (perhaps she gifted the piece to her daughter-in-law):
Sofía lent the tiara to her daughters on different occasions (one being the wedding of infanta Cristina):
Fingers 🤞🏻 Leonor will wear it soon.....
