Cardinal Rule
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” John 14:27ASV
If a person could sell peace as a commodity right now, I believe a fortune could be made. Charge whatever price desired for a day’s worth of peace, you’ll get it.
I told my readers— we’ve been in the process of selling our home, now sold. Selling a property is a peace-less project. You want the dollar amount of what the house is worth to you. The appraiser says the house is worth another dollar amount to the bank. Buyers want a bargain to get the house for the dollar amount they can afford to pay. Inspectors want to nitpick the house to determine if this wire needs to be raised up.
Debbie and Lou went into full anxiety. Jesus said we were to have peace. Lou gains peace if Debbie is peaceful. We were in a fix. Tired, overworking, using muscles which had been dormant for some time didn’t help my anxiety level.
Praying, stopping all work, getting in front of God is where I found peace. Kathy Pelton wrote the book and accompanying journal, ’30 Days To Breakthrough Peace.’ Day 8 is entitled— ‘But God’ She lists how we have too much on our plate to ever finish in our allotted time. Doomsday timelines, unhappy problems surmount everything we try to get done. It wears us down. Then she lists King David and Joseph from the Bible. They both suffered insurmountable difficulties. Their decisions individually were to trust God. In their weaknesses and terrible situations, they found they couldn’t— ‘But God’ could and did.
As I worked through her book, Day 8-10 I was also spending time on my face before God, crying for peace in my storm. Three weeks into selling, everyone else’s houses were selling and mine had few lookers and no offers. God began to work through the book and reinforcing scriptures telling me— GIVE UP CONTROL.
How can we control an uncontrollable situation? —By worrying and not rejoicing. —By trying new ideas and not resting. —By talking about the problem and not praying.
God instructed a cardinal rule through Paul— “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-8NKJV. Anxiousness brings worry and the devil into the situation. Control holds hands with anxiety, worry, sickness, and anger.
Such a simple prescription for peace and such a fight to follow the prescription. Jesus gave us His peace. Accessing the peace is our responsibility. Will you seek peace, God’s way? It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Father God forgive us for trying to control life and not coming to You. Lord we will rest in Your arms peacefully as You work out all the storms in our lives, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Bringing a full range of quality concrete services to the L.A. area, Conco has a reputation for handling the most challenging projects and tight deadlines.
Since the passage of Ordinance 183893 in 2015, the City of Los Angeles has been busy identifying non-ductile concrete buildings that require seismic retrofitting to come up code. Along with all of the other concrete services we provide, The Conco Companies is providing professional seismic retrofitting for pre-1978 non-ductile concrete buildings in L.A.
Utilizing our extensive experience, we have the expertise to strengthen concrete buildings to improve their safety and integrity as well as to preserve the historic or unique design elements of the building. Our portfolio includes several renowned area projects including the 1920s-era L.A. Hall of Justice, the iconic L.A. City Hall and the historic Rose Bowl Stadium.
The goal of seismic retrofitting is to reduce structural deficiencies and improve the performance of the targeted non-ductile concrete buildings in the event of an earthquake. Without proper strengthening, these buildings may experience structural failure during and/or after seismic activity.
In the case of the award-winning concrete seismic retrofit of Los Angeles’ City Hall, the project required 30,000 cubic yards of concrete, 3,000 tons of structural steel, and 5,000 tons of reinforcing steel. Part of the project included providing reinforced concrete shear walls to strengthen existing masonry walls. Another seismic retrofit and renovation we were proud to be involved with was the $231-million L.A. Hall of Justice project. The building had been extensively damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. During the project, we utilized cost-effective solutions including using shotcrete to construct walls faster and with less material to save both time and money.
To ensure the best outcome as well as to minimalize the costs, seismic retrofitting projects require experience as well as innovative thinking and Conco delivers plenty of both to all of our projects. In addition to being one of California’s top commercial concrete contractors, we have over sixty years of experience in the industry. Trust Conco’s expertise to help bring your pre-1978 non-ductile concrete building up to code. Please contact us to learn more.
The Conco Companies are one of the foremost suppliers of concrete services for the Western U.S. We got our start in 1959 in the Bay Area by offering clients the best value on a broad range of concrete services and products. Since that time, we have taken a leading role as top concrete contractors in the region. We have regional offices serving California, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado and Washington.
