가끔은 '매치가 된다'는 말이 서운하게 들릴 때가 있다. 첫 인상만으로 한 사람의 대략적인 그림을 그릴 수 있다는 건 어딘가 내 자신이 상대방에게 간파된 느낌이다. '그게 어때서?'라고 반문할 수 있지만 약간 과장하자면 '내가 그렇게 단순해 보이나?'라는 생각도 든다. 

데뷔 '3주차' 신인 아이돌그룹 빅스(VIXX)의 켄(Ken)은 이런 맥락에서 늘 기대 이상을 주는 멤버로 통할 듯하다. 표정만 봤을 땐 마냥 개구쟁이 같고 목소리를 같이 들었을 땐 4차원 소년의 매력을 드러낸다. 

여기에 타이틀곡 '슈퍼히어로(SUPER HERO)'의 멜로디가 얹히면 소속사 선배 성시경 박효신 서인국을 이을 보컬리스트로서의 역량도 확인된다. 화제가 된 '오토바이 댄스'를 추는 모습도 매력적이다. 머리부터 꼬리까지 버릴 게 없다는 '한우'에 비유되는 우스갯소리도 그래서 나왔다.

"주목 받는 걸 좋아하냐고요? 싫어하는 사람도 있나요.(웃음) 누구나 사랑 받고 싶은 마음이 있잖아요. 저에게 관심 가져주면 감사하죠."

켄의 말에 살짝 표정이 굳은 레오(Leo). 몇 개월을 함께 같은 숙소에서 생활을 했지만 켄의 앙탈은 언제 봐도 받아주기 힘들다는 눈치였다. 그러고 보니 켄은 6명의 멤버가 일렬로 앉아있는 와중에도 유독 몸을 앞으로 뺐다. MBC 예능프로그램 '무한도전'의 멤버 정준하가 늘 자기 자리보다 한 발짝 앞에 서는 탓에 다른 멤버들에게 구박받는 그런 캐릭터와 닮아 보였다.

"위로 형 두 명이 있는데 저랑 안 놀아줬어요. 그래서 제가 애정결핍일까요?(웃음) 장난 치는 걸 워낙 좋아했어요. 제가 하는 말에 사람들이 반응해주면 희열이 느껴지기도 하고요."

팀에 '예능 담당'을 정한다면 켄이 적임자일 듯 했다. '슈퍼히어로'를 미리 듣지 못하고 인터뷰실에 들어온 사람들을 위해 즉석에서 노래 한 소절을 불러줬다. 말 장난부터 돌발 표정까지 스스로를 가만두는 법도 없었다. "엔터테이너가 숙명처럼 보인다"는 말에 "에이~ 숙명은 가수지!"라며 웃었다.

"어려서부터 계속 노래를 불렀어요. 요즘 유행하는 오디션프로그램에 나간 적은 없지만 가요제에 꾸준히 나갔었거든요. 발라드를 주로 불렀는데 항상 상위권으로 입상했고요. 그렇게 작은 경험이 쌓이면서 제 무의식 속에 '가수가 되자'는 생각이 깔려있었던 것 같아요."

일찌감치 무대 위에서 노래하는 켄을 보고 '떡잎'을 알아본 사람도 많았다. 이 중에는 켄에게 반해 가수의 꿈을 키웠다는 사람도 있다. 가족보다도 살 비비는 시간이 많은 빅스의 멤버 홍빈이 주인공이다.

"소속사에 처음 들어왔을 때 홍빈이가 '우리 어디서 본 적 있지 않나'고 묻더라고요. 기억을 되짚어보니 홍빈이네 고등학교 축제에 제가 초대된 적이 있더라고요. 그때 춤추고 노래하는 아마추어 팀에서 활동했는데 그 모습을 홍빈이가 좋게 봐줬대요."

사람을 즐겁게 하는 일이건, 노래를 잘 하는 일이건 무조건 '될 때까지 하자'는 철칙을 가지고 있는 켄. 고등학교 축제 무대 위 아마추어에서 각종 음악프로그램에 출연하는 프로가 된 것도 그만의 '긍정적인 오기' 덕분이었다.

"좋자고 노력하는 거잖아요. 실패를 거듭해도 어쨌든 성공하기 위한 과정이니까요. 저희의 노래를 모든 사람들이 알고, 저희의 노래가 모든 음원차트 1위에 오르려면 아직 먼 길을 더 가야 해요. 그래도 '슈퍼히어로'로 데뷔하고 활동 중인 지금이 정말 행복하죠. 지금까지는 저 혼자 '될 때까지 한다'고 욕심을 부렸지만 이젠 팀이니까 의지도 하고 힘도 돼 주면서 성장해가야겠죠?"

The rookie idol group that has debuted for 3 weeks, VIXX's Ken in this context passes the meaning as a member who always gives you anticipation. Whenever only his expressions are seen, whenever his forever seemingly mischievous voice is heard, this 4D youth's charm is shown.

While digesting the title song 'Super Hero's melody their capabilities of a vocalist have been verified by company sunbaes like Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin, and Seo In Guk. Their image of dancing their trendy 'motorcycle dance' is also charismatic. From head to toe, compared to the 'native Korean cow' that has nothing that is expendable, a joke was made like that.

"Is it nice to receive attention? There are also people who hate it. (laughs) Everyone has the desire to be loved. If you have interest in me thank you."

Leo whose expression slightly stiffened to Ken's words. Although they lived together for a few months in the dorm, whenever he experiences Ken's whining, he gave a look of having a hard time. Come to think of it, although the 6 members are seated in a single file line, Ken was disengaged towards the front. He seemed similar to MBC entertainment program 'Infinite Challenge's Jung Ju Ha's character of being abused by other members, who always had one foot situated in front of his seat. 

"There are two hyungs above me but they don't play with me. So am I love-deprived? (laughs) I naturally love to play pranks. If people react to my words, I feel pleasure." 

If we were to decide on the one 'responsible for entertainment' within the team, it seems like Ken would fit this role. For those who entered the interview room without listening to 'Super Hero' beforehand, he sang a measure of the song on the spot. From his jokes up to his unexpected expressions, he has no way of keeping it to himself. To the words "It's your destiny to be an entertainer" he laughed and said "Ey~ my destiny is to be a singer!"

"From when I was young I continued singing. Although I haven't appeared on the recently popular audition programs, I've steadily come out at a song festival. I mostly sang ballads but I won a pretty high place. While gaining small experiences like that, my subconscious was buried with thoughts of 'Let's become a singer'. 

There are also many people that see the Ken who sang rather early on stage and recognize him as a 'man'. In the middle of this there are also people who fell into cultivating Ken's dream of being a singer.  The protagonist who spent more time with him than his family, VIXX member Hongbin.

"When I first entered the company, Hongbin asked me 'Have me met somewhere before?' Recalling my memories, I had been invited to a festival at Hongbin's high school festival before. At that time, I was promoting in an amateur team through dancing and singing but Hongbin-ie said that image looked good."

Ken who has the motto of unconditionally doing everything in an entertaining way and singing well 'until they're done'.  This is thanks to his 'unyielding motive' of becoming a pro that appears on various music programs from being an amateur at a high school festival stage.

"To do well is to work hard. Although I repeatedly fail, it's a process in which I have to succeed no mater. In order for our songs to be known by everyone and for our songs to climb to the #1 spot on all music charts, we still have a long road ahead of us. Even so, I've debuted through the 'Super Hero' and now that we're promoting I'm happy. Up till now I was greedy alone to 'sing until I become a singer' but now that we're a team I depend on them and when it gets hard, I also should grow right?"

데뷔 '3주차' 신인 아이돌그룹 빅스(VIXX). 젤리피쉬엔터테인먼트에서 처음 선보인 남자아이돌그룹으로 시작부터 많은 화제를 몰고 있다. 소속사 선배의 명성에 걸 맞는 가창력을 가졌다는 뜻에서 '6명의 성시경'으로 불리기도 한다. 신인 답지 않은 여유를 매 무대에서 뽐낸다는 의미로 '반전돌'이란 별명도 붙었다.  팝의 세련된 감성이 느껴지는 데뷔 타이틀곡 '슈퍼히어로(SUPER HERO)'의 무대에는 엔 레오 켄 홍빈 라비 혁 등 6명 멤버의 개성이 적절히 녹아있다. 팀명대로 최고의 비주얼(Visual)과 최고의 목소리(Voice)를 자랑하는 빅스의 멤버 중에서도 '최고의 연습벌레'로 꼽히는 레오(Leo). 그의 매력을 공개한다.  "재미도 없는데 어떻게 웃나요?" 2시간 넘도록 진행된 인터뷰. 지친 탓에 표정이 어둡나 싶었지만 사실 레오는 첫 인상부터 남 달랐다. 리더 엔부터 막내 혁까지 "레오는 원래 이렇다"며 안심(?)을 시켰지만 눈이 마주칠 때마다 멈칫했다. 방송인 노홍철의 말을 떠올리며 "행복해서 웃는 게 아니라 웃으면 기분이 좋아지는 거라더라"며 살짝 미소를 띠어보자고 제안했지만 실패였다. "저도 홍빈이처럼 잘 웃고 싶은데 안 되더라고요. 일부러 표정을 무섭게 짓는 건 아닌데 인상이 아무래도 부드럽지는 않은 것 같아요. 종종 오해하는 팬들도 있어서 고쳐야겠다는 생각은 하죠." 시종일관 진지하고 무거운 분위기를 낸 레오는 사실 치열한 내면을 안고 있었다. '겉만 보고 판단하지 말라'는 말은 레오를 위한 말 같았다. 지길 싫어하는 승부욕, 최고가 돼야 한다는 욕심, 될 때까지 한다는 오기가 지금의 레오를 만들었다. "나이가 한 자릿수(?)였을 때부터 노래를 했어요. 제가 최고라고 생각했죠. 양재동에서 쭉 살았는데 제가 '양재동 넘버원 가수'로 통했거든요. 예술고등학교에 입학했을 때만해도 '역시 난 잘해'라는 자만심에 빠져있었어요. 수업을 들을수록 충격이 심해지는 거에요. 노래 잘하는 친구들이 이렇게 많은 줄 몰랐죠. 제가 제일 못 하더군요." 뒤늦게 자신의 진짜 위치를 파악한 레오는 그 즉시 학교를 나왔다. "믿어온 것과 다른 현실을 피하고 싶었던 게 아니냐"는 질문에 "내가 배울 수 있는 게 없었다"고 말했다. "제가 따라갈 수 없었어요. 체계적인 시스템이 부러웠지만 제 스타일을 살리기 어렵다는 생각도 했고요. 가수로서 가진 꿈은 '메인보컬' 하나였는데 그 친구들과 같은 속도로 배워가면 제가 끝까지 뒤쳐질 거란 생각도 들었어요. 남들보다 더 빨리 더 많은 걸 익히기 위해 학교를 포기하고 다른 방법을 택했어요." 레오는 자신의 매력을 살릴 수 있는 보컬트레이너나 학원을 전전하며 꿈을 키웠다. 부족한 부분이 발견되면 잠도 오지 않았다. 배도 고프지 않았다. 사방이 전신거울로 둘러싸인 연습실에서 점점 나아지는 자신을 발견하며 포만감을 느꼈다. "지금까지도 그래요. 데뷔를 했다고 모든 게 이뤄진 건 아니잖아요. 빅스의 메인보컬이 됐다는 사실만으로 기쁘지만 갈 길이 멀었다고 생각합니다. 멤버들이 가끔은 '스스로를 너무 피곤하게 하지 말아라'고 조언해주는데 연습 밖에 살길이 없잖아요. 정상에 올라 100점 만점에 100점을 줄 수 있는 상황이 오더라도 지금의 마음가짐을 버리진 않을 거에요."

The idol group who has debuted for '3 weeks' VIXX. Ever since Jellyfish Entertainment revealed their first male idol group they have been a hot topic. They are called the '6 Sung Si Kyungs' due to their singing prowess that matches their company sunbaes' reputation. From their boasted meaning of each performance not being like that of a rookie's, they have also been given the nickname 'reverse idols'. On the stage of the debut title song 'Super Hero' that has the feeling pop's polished sensitivity, the 6 members ; N, Leo, Ken, Hongbin, Ravi, and Hyuk's individuality is well displayed.  The team name that boasts of the best visuals and voice, VIXX's member that is labeled 'the best  practice worm', Leo. We are revealing his charm. "It's not even funny, how do I laugh?" The interview that took a 2 hour long process. To us trying to become close, he showed a dark expression but the truth is, Leo was unique from others just from his first impression. From the leader N to the magnae Hyuk stated that "Leo is originally like that", although he was relaxed (?) every time our eyes met his eyes, he hesitated. In broadcaster No Hongchul's words, "It's not that I smile while I'm happy but that while smiling I become happy" we asked him to show a slight smile but we failed. "I'm also like Hongbin-ie who wants to smile well but can't. It's not that I intentionally show a scary expression but I think no matter what my first impression is never a soft one. Sometimes there are also fans who misunderstand so I think I have to fix it." Leo who from the beginning till the end was serious and had a heavy atmosphere in reality knew of his fierce side. 'Don't judge a book by its cover' is a saying that is made for Leo. Unyielding until he became a competitive person who hates to lose that has the greed to become the best, the Leo of today was made. "I sang since I was 1 years old(?). I thought I was the best. The me who lived in Yangjaedong was named 'Yangjaedong's number one singer'. I even fell completely into vanity when I entered an arts high school, thinking that 'As expected, I do well'. The more classes I took the more shocked I was. I didn't know there were that many people who sang this well. I was the worst." Leo who understood his true position too late immediately left the school. To the question, "Didn't you want to avoid what you discovered and other realities?" he replied "I couldn't learn anything." "I couldn't catch up.  I envied the systematic system but I also thought that it would be hard to save my own style. I had the dream of being the 'main vocal' but I also had the impression that if I could learn at the same speed as the others I would turn until the end. In order to master things faster than the others I avoided school and chose a different method." Leo wandered  around for a private college or a vocal trainer that could save his own charms while cultivating his dream. When he discovered his lacking points sleep also would not come. While discovering his improved self through the full body mirrors that surrounded dollar sign's practice room, he felt satisfied. "It's like that even now. I've debuted but I won't succeed in everything. I'm happy about the reality that I've become VIXX's main vocal but I feel that the road ahead is long. Sometimes the members advise "Don't tire yourself out" but I can't survive without practicing. Even if I can reach the top by achieving 100 points out of 100, I won't throw away the mentality I have now.

젤리피쉬엔터테인먼트에서 처음 선보인 신인 아이돌그룹 빅스(VIXX). 지난 24일 첫 데뷔 무대를 가진 후 활발하게 활동하고 있다. 팝의 세련된 감성이 느껴지는 데뷔 타이틀곡 '슈퍼히어로(SUPER HERO)'의 무대에는 엔 레오 켄 홍빈 라비 혁 등 6명 멤버의 개성이 적절히 녹아있다. 팀명대로 최고의 비주얼(Visual)과 최고의 목소리(Voice)를 자랑하는 빅스의 멤버 중에서도 '최고의 랩퍼'를 꿈꾸는 라비(Ravi). 그의 매력을 공개한다. "어려서부터 흑인음악을 들었어요. 특별한 이유가 있었던 건 아닌데 처음 접한 음악이 힙합이어서 그랬던 것 같아요. 커버에 흑인 두 분이 서있는 앨범이었어요. 지금도 누군진 잘 기억이 안 나네요.(웃음) 멜로디보다 랩이 귀에 들어왔고 그때부터 따라 했어요." 라비는 겉모습부터 남 모를 포스가 느껴졌다. 살짝 초점을 잃은 눈동자와 그윽한 눈빛은 상대방을 매료시켰다. 순간적으로 잠에 빠지는 기면증 증세가 있다는 그는 자신의 인터뷰 순서가 다가오기 전까지 정신을 차리려 안간힘을 쓰기도 했다. "연습하다가 잠에 든 적은 없는데 가끔 저도 모르는 사이 졸 때가 있어요. 사람들은 그걸 기면증이라고 부르던데 MBC 시트콤 '하이킥! 짧은 다리의 역습'에 나왔던 김지원 캐릭터처럼 심각한 건 아니에요.(웃음)" 라비의 말에 멤버들은 "네가 '하이킥'을 어떻게 알아?" "너 텔레비전 언제 봤어?" 라는 질문이 쏟아졌다. 올 초부터 데뷔를 앞두고 연습 삼매경이었던 빅스에게 텔레비전을 볼 여유란 사치였기 때문이다. 텔레비전 자체도 없었다. 라비의 '김지원 발언'은 일파만파 퍼졌다. "사실 연습생으로 생활하면서 조금의 스트레스도 풀 곳이 없다면 거짓말일거에요. 잠자고 밥 먹고 연습하고 다이어트 하고, 이런 생활만 반복하는 건 불가능한 일이죠. 저희 회사에서도 스파르타 교육법을 강조하지 않거든요. 최근에 가수 윌아이엠이 내한했을 때 빅스 멤버들 다 같이 만난 적이 있어요. 제가 워낙 힙합 음악을 좋아해서 윌아이엠이 강남 클럽에 온다는 소식을 듣고 소속사 식구들과 멤버들이 다 같이 놀러 가서 실컷 즐겼어요.(웃음)"  당시의 여운에 사로잡힌 라비. 힙합에 대한 애착 때문에 빅스가 추구하는 음악적 가치가 맞을지 걱정도 됐다. "하고 싶은 음악과 보여주는 음악이 다르면 힘들지 않겠냐"고 묻자 당찬 대답이 돌아왔다. "K-POP을 노래하지만 그 중에서도 팝에 가까운 감성을 살리는 게 빅스의 색깔이라 굉장히 만족스러워요. 기존 아이돌그룹의 일원으로 합류했다면 인기는 지금보다 더 많이 얻고 있을지 몰라도 스스로 만족을 느낄 때는 많지 않겠다는 생각도 들거든요. 제가 잘 할 수 있는 랩으로 빅스의 노래에 보탬이 된다는 건 기쁜 일이죠." '슈퍼히어로'는 라비의 랩으로 시작해 끝이 난다. 4분여 동안 온전히 자신에게 주어지는 시간은 40여 초. 짧은 소절씩 여러 번 얼굴을 비추는 멤버들과 달리 한 번 등장에 상대적으로 많은 시간이 주어지는 셈이다. "멜로디보다 랩이 팬들에게 다가가기 어려운 면도 있어요. 노래는 한 번 들으면 가사를 몰라도 흥얼거릴 수 있지만 랩은 멜로디 없이 메시지만 있는 노래잖아요. 그마저도 귀를 기울여주지 않으면 '저 아이가 지금 무슨 말을 하나' '폼만 잡고 있는 건가' 이런 생각이 들 수도 있고요. 그래서 늘 '더 정확히 더 빠르게 더 많은 걸 보여주자'는 생각으로 연습하고 있어요. 빅스와 함께 성장하는 제 모습을 보고 싶네요."

From appearance, Ravi has the feel of a hidden pose. His eyes that are slightly unfocused and his mellow gaze captivates the other party. The him who has a symptom of narcolepsy, attempted to gain his senses and hold back the urge (to sleep) before it was his turn for his interview.  "I've never fallen asleep during practice but sometimes I also don't know how long I've dozed off for. There are who have the sympton called narcolepsy but it's not serious like the character Kim Jiwon of the MBC sitcom 'High Kick! Short legs' Counterattack'. (laughs)" To Ravi's words, the members bombarded him with questions, "How do you know 'High Kick'?" "When did you watch TV?" This is because the period before debuting VIXX was completely absorbed in practice and didn't have the luxury of watching TV. They don't even have a TV. Ravi's 'Kim Jiwon comment' caused a lot of division. In reality, it's a lie that I didn't have even have a little stress when I was a trainee. Sleep, eat, practice, diet; only this type of lifestyle is impossible. Our company also doesn't emphasize a Spartan teaching method. Recently singer Will.I.Am. visited Korea and all the VIXX members met him together. I naturally like hip hop music so when I heard that Will.I.Am came to a Gangnam club, together with the members and dorm mates we all went out to play and partied out. (laughs)" Ravi who was lost in memories of that time.  Because I have an attachment to hip hop I became worried about finding the musical value that fit with FIXX. We asked him "Isn't it hard if the music you want to do and the music you present is different?"

He revealed his answer, "I'm singing K-POP but VIXX's unique color is that they savor the feeling of something close to pop, so it's very satisfying. Although established idol groups become more popular than the present through a new member joining, there's also the impression that there won't be many times that they'll feel satisfied by themselves. I'm happy to become the support for VIXX's songs through the rap that I can do well." 'Super Hero' begins and ends with Ravi's rap. In the entire 4 minutes, the time he is given is 40 seconds. Unlike the members whose faces are shown various times in their short measures, in calculation the time he is shown in the MV is relatively a lot. "There's a side to rep that makes it harder to reach fans than through the melody. If you listen to a song once even if you don't know the lyrics you can hum along but rap is only a song without a melody.  In addition, if you don't catch the listener's attention 'What is that kid saying right now?' 'He's only doing the actions' there can be this type of impression. So I'm always practicing with the thought that 'Show more precise, faster rap'. I want to see my grown image along with VIXX."
