The second batch of the OC meme. Btw I'll tag these all as "hiton oc meme" in case you'll get tired of seeing them and want to block!

5. I think all of my reasons both for character creation and for making art in general boil down to the same desire: to connect with other people. In practice this means doing stuff like drawing group comics, role playing together or simply just talking about our OCs with other artists.

6. I don't think there's anything interesting in my OC creation process: I mostly create from a need. ("I want to join this project", "I could use a character like this".) But I can really get lost into the vibe check of the character's name. Especially the first letter really has to fit perfectly!

7. I do ship my OCs with other people's OCs! ...or at least I used to in my forum rpg days. Nowadays there aren't really anyone to do that with, but that's life I guess. In the art pieces are my old Pokémon trainer OC Reliam and @jupujuu.bsky.social's Charlotte. They were extremely cute together!

8. I don't think I can really pick a favorite OC couple for real, but one of the funniest was Serafi x Ikaros. They were two mean bullies who were certainly close and even fake dated as a prank, but I never disclosed officially if they were actually together or just doing a long-winded bit.

I quick attempt to get me back into the regular OC content, because Art Fight is just around the corner and I really want to take part in it once again! (Please come fight with me.)

To celebrate pride month I made a list in Toyhou.se about all of my characters who sail under the rainbow flag. I wasn’t going to list Pokémon at all first because I think of them mostly as smart animals, but then I realized that argument doesn’t really hold water all that well, as there certainly are same-sex couples in the animal kingdom. Immediately after that I realized how freaking strong gay vibes I get from my old RP critter Saramu the Scizor, so in a matter of minutes I decided that canonically she eventually got together with Madara the Pangoro, another Pokémon from her team.

It’s not specified who two are talking in this doodle, but if you assume they could be anyone else than Reliam and Charlotte, you are very wrong. =‘D

My motivation to write character info in Toyhoy.se completely escaped from me, so in the meanwhile I decided to start working on some profile pictures I would’ve needed soon anyway. Here are the first two, Leon and Reliam. Reliam’s wheelchair is far from perfect, but who cares; as long as it can at least be recognized as such, I’m gonna just roll with it. Also the sketch for Reliam was like... 3-4 years old hahah.

Since I’ve been talking about video games so much lately (Okay only one game, but...) I thought I’ll continue on that track for a while and make quite an obscure list - list of all game demos I’ve played with 3DS! They will be listed roughly from most enjoyable to least fun, and I will be relying solely on my own experience instead of objectivity. So here we go!

Quell: Reflect

This felt nearly too good for a demo! It’s a puzzle game which had enough content to entertain me for over an hour. And dang that calming atmosphere! I really recommend trying this one out, maybe even buying it, since the whole version costs just few euros.

Theatryth Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

You can think whatever you like about FF-series, but I bet everyone agrees when I say it has some epic music. Therefore making a rhythm game based on the series seems like a logical thing to do, and in my opinion it was good idea, too. The demo contains only two tracks and three difficulty levels, but they are just enough to leave me really wanting to buy the actual game.

Tomodachi Life

The demo explains nicely the basic idea behind this weirdish life simulator, and most importantly, lets you even create a few own characters! It really surprised me how good the game is at pinpointing the characters’ natures based on a few questions- just look at that Reliam, for example. 8′‘‘D The demo was therefore really nice, although I’m not sure how long I would be entertained by the real game.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

This was the first demo ever I downloaded, hah. And it is just what you expect it to be: a glimpse to the AA world I’m already familiar with. Because of that I didn’t get that much out of it, but it sure made me laugh by stating in-game how the trial has to be an easy one, since this is just a demo version, after all. I will buy this game if I ever get a chance.

Super Smash Bros 3DS

This demo offered five playable characters, which was really a fair amount, but... That was pretty much it. It didn’t give any instructions about the gameplay and I would’ve been completely in trouble have I not played the Nintendo 64 version aeons ago. Pretty unrewarding experience for a fighting game noob like me, I would say.

Pokémon Omega Ruby  Alpha Sapphire

Oras was fine, but the demo was pretty much just boring battling and other “very important missions”. Buuuut it rewarded your trouble with some game content for the whole version, so I guess it was worth it.

Chibi-Robo: Let’s Go Photo!

I really wanted to like this one, but I... Just couldn’t. The original Chibi-Robo is one of my favorite games, so seeing the series to get turned into a not-so-fun photographing minigame with very limited exploration possibilities makes me really sad. I guess it could be just the demo’s fault and the rest of the game would be better, but somehow I don’t have much faith in that.

Nintendogs + Cats

I never had one of these classics, so I wanted to try them out! But oh god the demo had such a short time limit I had to start from the beginning a couple of times to even get to try out everything there was... And there wasn’t even a lot to do. The animals were cute and they had maybe one pretty collar and that was it lol.

Cooking Mama 4

I bet this would be a great game for people who like minigames, but sadly I’m not one of those people. Too hectic with too little instructions and pretty much no meaning. Cute and fun for certain kind of players, but not for me.

Survivor Heroes

Ahahah this was random as heck! You are one of the people in Survivor TV show and try to, well, survive on an island and play - once again - some minigames to do so. What weirded me out the most was that you couldn’t talk to anyone! Your team mates were just running around and even through you, but you couldn’t make horrible plans to vote that One Annoying Guy out with them. Also nothing felt fun at all.

Rayman Origins

A fast paced platformer. I wasn’t able to beat a single level. Yeah.

Vampire: Someone offers you a chance at immortality. Do you take it, and why or why not?

Of course I wouldn’t take it, for the obvious reasons: seeing your loved ones die a gazillion times, having fun while the sun enlarges and burns the planet and stuff like that. =’D And what would I even do with eternal life? I can’t think for one thing it would REALLY be useful.

Witch: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I think I would give humans more compassion towards each other and the World itself. It would likely help to solve many problems.

Faerie: If you could get away with anything, what would you do?

STEAL THINGS. Like, if I could do it so no one was harmed (no employees accused or anything) and… Oh hey, or maybe I would just steal money, so I could buy anything I’d like! Maybe a couple of million euros or something. I would live happily with that for the rest of my life!

Nymph: What are you like when you’re by yourself?

Sleepy. =u= You have no idea how much time I spend sleeping.

Banshee: If you knew one of your loved ones/best friends had only one day left to live, how would you spend that last day with them?

Likely I wouldn’t tell them about what was to come. I just… Tried to spend some quality time with them while holding back tears.

Siren: If you could make anyone do anything, what would you make them do?

I would make people temporarily unable to lie to me and then I would ask questions about aliens and ghosts and magic and religion - all kinds of stuff what a an agnostic like me would doubt if the person was even theoretically able to lie.

Genie: If you had one wish that would come true and couldn’t be reversed, what would you ask for?

I would ask for happiness. Lame, I know, but there is just no way that would backfire. >=)

RELIAM! (40 yo, just because I feel like it)

Hmph, I… Would at least consider it? There is just so many things to do and see! It’s hard to fit it all into one lifetime. Though I would really want to make my family immortal, too, if I was like that myself.

Werewolf: If you had to spend your life with just one person, who would it be?

My dumb wife.

Witch: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I would make it so the time wouldn’t tick so fast!

Ghost: Do you have any regrets?

Well who really doesn’t? I surely did some things I would undo if I could when I was younger.

Frankenstein: Is someone telling you how to live your life, or are you an independent person?

Independent, of course! I don’t take orders from anyone. (Or so he likes to think.)

Mummy: If you were to fall into an eternal sleep, do you think anyone would miss you?

I sure hope my family would..? And I guess some of my pokémons would, too.

Zombie: Do you miss anyone right now?

Not right now, but sometimes I really miss my dad.

Faerie: If you could get away with anything, what would you do?

I would turn myself into a tiny, tiny bug and then I would follow my daughters around a bit. It would really ease my worries if I knew what they were doing sometimes!

Nymph: What are you like when you’re by yourself?

I don’t know, I’m just myself?

Mermaid: How far would you go to keep the one you love?

To Johto and back, at least! Once I even tried to do that. It wasn’t that big of a success.

Shapeshifter: What would you change about yourself?

Well, I’m really used to having prosthetic legs nowadays, but I think I would still grow my own legs back if I could.

Banshee: If you knew one of your loved ones/best friends had only one day left to live, how would you spend that last day with them?

I would spend the day figuring out how I can prevent them from dying, of course!

Siren: If you could make anyone do anything, what would you make them do?

Hmm, I could always make my boss to give me a raise…

Genie: If you had one wish that would come true and couldn’t be reversed, what would you ask for?

Ugh this sounds so cheesy, but I would make it so that my daughters would be happy no matter what they decided to do with their lives. And also that they never got any douchebag boyfriends! …or, uh, girlfriends.

Fury: What is a word/phrase that you dread to hear?

"Dad, I’m pregnant!" Just… No. Not yet. Preferably never!

Incubus: What would someone have to do to get in your pants?

Hearing “kids aren’t home right now” is enough for me!

Succubus: What’s one thing you can’t live without?

Coffee. I think I’ve had coffee in my veins since Lotte started to expect the children.

Pokemon Unknown: Next Generation (#13)

Yllä vaihtoehtoisia kuvia sarjan varrelta - klikkaa kuvia lukeaksesi mihin sarjan osiin ne liittyvät!

Lätistäköön lisäksi vielä vähän PU-hahmojeni nimien alkuperistä. Useampikin hahmo on jo tullut siunatuksi Miraka-sukunimellä, jonka syntytarina juontuu ties minne 2000-luvun tietämille. Kirjoittelimme luokkakavereiden kesken nimmareitamme mahdollisimman suttuisesti johonkin paperinkulmaan, ja erään toverin toinen nimi Miranda näytti siinä yhteydessä vääntyvän vahingossa muotoon Miraka. Itsekseni tuumasin että siinäpä veikeä nimi, sitäpä voisi joskus käyttää jossain. Sen teinkin silloisella alter egollani Saga Mirakalla, joka sittemmin muuntui pokémonkouluttajahahmoksi ja Reliamin serkuksi. Lopulta ympyrä sulkeutui, kun Reliamin tytär sai nimekseen Miranda Miraka.

Reliamin etunimi taasen perustuu kapulaenglanninkieliseen re-Liam, öh, termiin. Perustin nääs muuan koirahahmoni erääseen oikeasti tuntemaani ihmiseen (siitä re-alku, ikään kuin "tämä yksi tyyppi uudelleensyntyneenä") jolle olisi sopinut paremmin kuin hyvin nimi Liam sen perusteella, että jonkin nimiselityskirjan tai -sivuston (en muista enää kumman) mukaan nimi merkitsi "vahvatahtoista soturia". Nyky-Reliam taasen perustui alkujaan löyhästi tuohon samaiseen koirahahmoon, joten oikeastaan hepun nimi voisi kai olla jopa Rereliam, hahah!

Pokémonien nimistä Saramu, Bron, Alora ja Zel ovat kaikki puolestaan väännöksiä jostain asiasta, mihin olen nimeämishetkellä kuluttanut aikaani. Ensimmäiset kaksi ovat Maan lapset -kirjasarjassa käytetyistä nimistä jalostettuja, mutten harmikseni enää muista mitkä alkuperäiset nimet olivat. (Saramu oli tätä vahingossa, mutta havaittuani asian päätin pitää juttua tulevien pokémonien nimien teemana.) Alora taas on Belgarionin taru -sarjasta, jossa oli Alornia-niminen paikka. Zel on lyhennelmä Animal Crossing: New Leaf -pelissä olevasta Zell-hahmosta, joka asustaa kylässäni. Jerico ja Veeti nimesivät itse itsensä enkä saanut nimiä enää pois päästäni kun ne sinne olivat ties mistä tulleet, Calypso oli tarkoituksella jotain minkä Charlotte olisi voinut keksiä (se on kai tanssi tai musiikkityyppi) koska Lotte kerran merikäärmeen pelissä nimesi ja Madara on Madara koska Reliamin isän houndoom oli jo nimeltään Devil ja Reliam tahtoi matkia isäänsä. Kaksi viimeisintä ovat siis molemmat, myös PU:n sisäisessä maailmassa, viittauksia sarjakuvahahmoihin: Devil Mustanaamiossa esiintyvään koiraan ja Madara erääseen Hopeanuolen karhuista.

Caspar ja Illia tekivät saman kuin mm. Jerico ja nimesivät ikään kuin itse itsensä. Norah Mona taas on ihan kamala yhdistelmä samantyyppisiä nimiä ja luonteenpiirteitä lainattuna neidin kanssa samankaltaisilta ihmisiltä (toivottavasti kukaan irl minua ja kyseisiä tyyppejä tunteva ei ikinä lue tätä ehheheh). Micah on puolestaan täydellinen randomheitto, ja kaksikon taiteilijapoika Leonardo Mona on lähinnä Leonardo da Vinci & Mona Lisa -läppä.

Pokemon Unknown: Next Generation (#12)

Tyttöjen lähestyessä aikuisikää joutui Reliam jokaisen vanhemman tavoin kasvokkain sen asian kanssa, ettei kasvattejaan voi pitää luonaan ikuisesti. Vielä omilleen lähteviä lapsiakin konkreettisemmin sen todisti kuitenkin Saramu, miehen ensimmäinen pokémonkumppani.

Eräänä aivan tavallisena iltana Reliamin huudeltua ulkona olleita pokémonejaan sisälle ei scizor nimittäin ollut muiden joukossa. Hetken etsittyään miekkonen löysi hyönteisen puun alta istumasta, ja hän oletti sen torkahtaneen ja siksi missanneen kutsun tulla kotiin. Reliam yritti kutsua otuksen poképalloonsa, mutta valonsäde kimmahti tehottomana pois punaisen kuoren pinnalta. Saramu, kouluttajalleen kutakuinkin 25 vuotta sitten kypsänä aikuisena tullut pokémon, oli nukahtanut illan tullen ikuiseen uneen.

Tämä on aikajanallisesti toistaiseksi viimeinen tapahtuma, jonka PU-hahmoilleni olen suunnitellut tapahtuvaksi. Näin ollen PU: NG -sarjani alkaa olla toistaiseksi finaalissa, lukuun ottamatta vielä yhtä jäljellä oleva postausta, jossa esittelen mm. käyttämättä jääneitä luonnoksia. Toistaiseksi sanavalintana kuitenkin siitä syystä, että saatan tehdä sarjaan myöhemmin lisäyksiä sitä mukaan kun niitä tulee maailman muiden hahmonomistajien kanssa juonittua.
