Lennard Pearce as Edward Kitchener "Grandad" Trotter about to take a bite out of his Emperor Burger (although it might just be a Cheeseburger). His background, like that of the van below, is Harlech Tower, the tower block in Acton which was called Nelson Mandela House in the show and where the Trotter family lived on the twelfth floor. Harlech Tower is due to be demolished in 2027.
The Reliant Supervan lll (or Reliant Regal Supervan lll) pictured outside the same tower block. As the name suggests it was the van version of the Reliant Regal car. The Regal ceased production around 1973 and was replaced by the Reliant Robin and later the Rialto however Del stuck with the Regal Supervan lll.
John Sullivan, the series writer, has claimed the humorous abbreviation for Trotters Independent Trading on the side of the van wasn't intentional. He said he had come up with the company name first before noticing the initials. He got the idea for "New York - Paris - Peckham" on the side of the van from Dunhill cigarette packaging which read "London - Paris - New York". You know it makes sense.
