A tribute to a star that will shine brightly forever.
To the loveliest shining star in the sky,
Our dearest Jonghyun,
You will forever shine bright and are cherished and loved by all of us and will live on in our hearts forever.
I'm going to keep this short because I'm overly emotional and if I don't, I'll get sidetracked.
These are 2 of my favorite images of Jonghyun.
The first, when Shinee surprised him for his birthday on stage. The pure joy on his face when he realized that his brothers were still determined to celebrate him, even in the middle of a concert. Jonghyun loved with his whole heart.
And this one. Some may think, 'why? He's crying' but that's exactly why. He was on stage, in front of thousands of people and he was still himself. Jonghyun was never afraid of showing his emotions. He embraced them. He was so kind, with a soft and open heart. He reminded us that it's okay to feel and be sensitive.
I'm done now as I'm sitting here choking my own tears back. The world is will break your heart many times. I hope one day I can become more like Jonghyun.
As we remember Jonghyun today, please do yourself a favor— pause, take a deep breath and rest. You are doing the best you can. Take a break. We live in a cruel world but take heart, everything will be okay in the end. Continue to have faith and please remember that it’s okay to not be okay. Reach out if you need help. Let’s be kind to each other ♥️
Jonghyun, we miss you and we love you.
You did well 🌹
I miss him so much, especially today
Oh geez. Jonghyun-ah, you almost made it. Rest well, star.
I’ve kept a diary/journal since my 17th birthday, three years ago, in which I aimed to write only significant and meaningful memories in whenever I remembered to. One thing I also used to occasionally do was write out lyrics to songs, and what they meant to me personally.
I opened it today to read through it and literally, the only songs I wrote about were songs Jonghyun wrote. I thought I’d share a couple of lines (not all because most of it is very personal) ... Alarm clock may be a bit hard to read but the rest are less heavy.
Nov 2014 - Alarm Clock: “the reason why these lyrics captured my attention is because the person singing will be describing a painful world that they wish to escape from, and they are waiting for the alarm clock to ring, which will grant them this freedom. If the alarm clock rings, then everything will be okay. It makes me wonder what Jonghyun’s inspiration for writing it was.”
Jun 2015 - Symptoms: “it’s been a while but this is still my favourite SHINee song!!”... “the love the singer has for this person is so powerful, he doesn’t know what will happen if it doesn’t get fulfilled.”
Dec 2015 - I’m Sorry: “whenever Jonghyun sings “I’m Sorry” he gets very choked up on emotions. It hits my heart when you hear his voice, and the song is so touchingly sad and beautiful. He’s such a warm hearted and emotional guy!??! Why can’t I seem to meet people like him in real life? it makes me wonder if his tears show his own personal connection to the lyrics...has he been in a situation like this?”
Mar 2017 - About Blue Night Radio: “almost every night for, I think, for the past 2 years I’ve been listening to Blue night radio. You can see how comfortable Jonghyun is being a radio DJ. He’s in his element. It’s cold in my flat, but I feel a sense of warmth when I listen to his voice? It’s like he’s here with me when I study lololol he’d probably think I’m so boring but still it’s comforting to me.”
To me, Jonghyun was someone that always fascinated and comforted me, with his emotions, lyricism, and sheer talent. He is someone that I hold the utmost respect for and I will always see him as an inspiration and muse. Whether it be through music, art, studying, or even through the way I will now carry myself in my life, Jonghyun has played such a huge role in defining who I am, and the qualities I possess and I know I’m not the only one. What I’m trying to say is that even though he may not be here with us physically anymore, there will always be a part of him present within ourselves as long as we want him to be.
