How would you characterize the turtles (+ April, splinter ) as to help people know how to right them like? I wanna write them but im kinda nervous about mischaracterizing them.

I used to be so worried about not perfectly representing characters and I think that's something that held me back from ever posting my work. Like I have a version of Leo in my head and maybe it's slightly different from perfect canon Leo or the version of Leo in your head. But then I thought isn't that something that's so special about fanfic? We all get to add our own little spin to these characters that we all already love.
So my advice would always be please write for you and for the joy of writing and hopefully it will connect with someone. Don't stress too too much about whether it perfectly aligns with the canon. We are all just having fun here :)
As for how I personally characterize everyone:
I don't wanna ramble too too much. As I think with characterization there is a lot going on and I grab from multiple canons when I want. I'm happy to go more in depth if anyone wants to dm me or chat in comments.
Simplistically, I think helps to narrow things down to what are this character's quirks and what are their flaws.
Leo: Overly anxious eldest child, who's a bit of a hopeless romantic with a bit of a perfectionist complex. To make up for his insecurity he puts his all into everything. Also an optimist that sees the best in everyone. Maybe that's not always a good thing...
Raph: Tough exterior but extremely caring and protective on the inside. Very sensitive and doesn't want anyone to know it. Values family above all but hopes to create meaningful relationships outside the family.
Donnie: Unknown child prodigy with an insane talent for computer science. Excels in school while putting in zero effort but feels very lackluster compared to his brothers, especially when it comes to fighting.
Mikey: Little ray of sunshine with a heart of gold that wants to be taken seriously. Has been sort of type casted as baby brother.
Splinter: Helicopter parent and worried father to quadruplets, maybe a bit too strict and overbearing but he means well. Maybe he's even got a few secrets.
April: Loyal, passionate and motivated with high career ambitions but a bit insecure and very socially anxious.
I can keep adding forever with little details and so on but this is sort of the gist in my brain for everyone when I'm writing.
When I move on to actually writing a story I think about what is this character's motivation/goal and what is holding them back from that.
So in mm the boys' goal is to be normal teenagers and attend high school but the fact that they are mutant turtles is holding them back from that. And then like add Cynthia Utrom, TCRI, and Superfly to the mix...
Anyway, I hope I didn't ramble too much! I love talking about writing stuff but just to reiterate this is simply my opinion and how I think of things. I don't think there's truly a wrong way to write fanfic. We are all just out here having fun after all!

Happy pride everyone! :) Sorry this is so late! I've been busy with work unfortunately.
Hmmm, I’m not sure if you are asking specifically about pride related headcanons. I purposely try to leave everyone’s orientation kinda vague in my fics so people can fill in with their own headcanons.
But I do have my own headcanons!
April: April is bi! She came out to her mom in middle school, who has been very supportive of her. Leo likes to buy her cheesy Bi pride knicknacks to show his support. It's a bit cringey but she finds it endearing and keeps them all in the corner of her desk.
Leo: Straight ally! Leo had an embarrassing girl crazy phase at the age of twelve that he will forever be teased about. He would routinely get crushes on the female cashiers/stockers of the stores they would borrow from. It was always forbidden love. Which he absolutely did not write or daydream cringey rpf about.
Raph: Not sure yet? Raph hasn’t really thought about it too much. He's only fifteen and is still figuring things out. He finds some people attractive but has never thought much about having an actual relationship.
Donnie: Questioning asexuality. He's never had a real crush only fictional ones. He finds the thought of a real relationship a bit too overwhelming especially when it comes to things like kissing or holding hands. This doesn't seem to apply in the fictional world tho! He loves self shipping himself with whatever anime character or K-pop celebrity he's obsessed with at the moment. Drawing himself holding hands with an anime girl and actually holding hands with an irl person are two completely different things.
Mikey: Pan! He likes who he likes and has lots of obscure celebrity crushes from Olivia Rodrigo to Jake from the State Farm commercials to that one guy they saw that one time in Times Square with the cool tattoos and that one girl in his improv club with pink hair and a nose piercing. He's not really ready or looking for a relationship at the moment but he certainly finds lots of people cute.
Splinter: Straight ally! He loves all his sons dearly and will always support them as they make new discoveries about themselves.
