and live with me forever now | flashback
Sunday, February 9, 9:23AM
Technically, if Zephyr were to say what he thought of as Remus’ wake-up time, it would have been ten am. He’d been with Remus long enough to know that Remus wasn’t a morning person - he’d known that before they were even together, but Zephyr had never judged because he wasn’t a morning person, either. However, working with schoolkids meant that Remus actually needed to be there when classes started and mornings had turned into something to savor in Zephyr’s mind.
Not that lounging in bed on Sundays was exactly a rare thing, the number of friends they had meant it was easy to find someone willing to keep Katie so they could sleep in.
Or do other things in bed. Whatever, no one had any room to judge.
Letting out a heavy sigh as his eyes focused on the time presented by the clock, Zephyr stretched and rolled onto his back, conscious of Remus’ weight next to him. At least that was something familiar, even if the ceiling above him looked different.
Getting used to the new house - or no, not exactly a house because a loft didn’t have the same feel to it - was something that Zephyr was still working on and sometimes he was still struck by how weird it was to think that he’d remodeled a house and then moved to another one, both times for the sake of his family.
When Zephyr first moved to England, he hadn’t really planned on staying long or getting comfortable. Even when he decided he needed more room and bought a three bedroom house all for himself, he wasn’t planning on staying, getting comfortable, or making attachments. Meeting Remus had shot every single bit of that plan to hell.
And now here he was, doing adult things like picking up and moving countries for his boyfriend’s job and regularly picking up and dropping off their kid as a sitter’s on the weekends. He had an adult life outside of the war that kept moving forward, and so did the lives of their friends, he realized.
Daisy, Juniper, Lily... every woman he was close to was pregnant with their own kid, he realized, and two out of the three of them were married. At some point when Zephyr wasn’t looking, everyone had settled comfortably into domesticity and the realization prompted him to roll over and sling an arm around Remus, nuzzling into his hair while pressing against him.
That was the rest of his life in his arms, no question about it. Remus was his person, the love of his life, and Zephyr had known that down to his bones for a while.
“Hey,” He murmured before kissing the space beneath Remus’ ear, rubbing along Remus’ side before propping up on his elbow. “Don’t worry, it’s not time to get Katie yet, but I have a question for you.”
And really, as he looked down on Remus, he wasn’t sure why he hadn’t asked before.
“Do you want to get married?”
