“ I...There is a door! Knock on it. “
00:00:00
Logan had never been nervous or scared about the number on his wrist slowly ticking closer to zero. While everyone around him became increasingly intimidated, he just sat back and had a small laugh. There was no way in hell he’d ever get scared. The number was only counting down the seconds before you met another person.
He wasn’t scared at all. Not even when the clock reached one day. One day before meeting a person who had a clock on their wrist that would hit zero at the same time as his. He wasn’t scared, maybe a little annoyed at the idea of meeting his soulmate on New Year’s Eve and fulfilling a lifetime of romantic comedies’ idea of romantic meeting place, but definitely not scared.
Not even at one hour, or thirty minutes. At ten minutes to go he was a little disappointed that the girl who had just walked past still had a few years left on her clock. At five minutes, he started looking around. At one minute, he got fed up with waiting. If his soulmate was at the New Years Eve party, she’d already be there. How many people were going to show up with five minutes before midnight?
Logan pulled out his chair and climbed onto it, thanking several different religious entities that he hadn’t drunk all too much yet. He tapped a fork against a glass to get everyone’s attention. It didn’t work. So he yelled.
"Excuse me," He was probably only barely heard over the music. "If anyone’s clock is about to run out, so is mine. Congratulations, your soulmate is yelling over music at a rooftop New Years Eve party to get your attention in particular. This could not be any more cliche or embarrassing for me than this so I’m going to get down now. I’m going over to the bar." Which he did. Logan only just got there as his clock hit zero. He glanced up to see who the lucky person would be and one of the bartenders smiled nervously back at him.
"Let’s agree that you’ll never do that again." She said, leaning forward on the bar.
"I can’t promise anything."
