A gazillion months later, this beast of a fic is finally completed! This originally was a Sterek Secret Santa Moulin Rouge inspired fic from...last year (2024). As a multi-part story, of course it somehow turned into a 27k+ story because two dummies refused to talk about feelings until they were literally forced to (by their Pack and me). To my dearest @renmackree, you're awesome, and I'm hoping you'll forgive me for such a long wait to conclude this crazy tale for you. Crossing my fingers I did some justice in turning something playful into lots angsty feels (with a happy ending, of course). Maybe this might inspire you to listen to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack again (or, if you're looking for something a little different, I also have a playlist that goes with this fic)! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy what's in store for Stiles and Derek, even if they are the world's biggest idiots in love. And to any readers who have kept up with this fic so far, thanks so much! "Captain Hale," Stiles says, nodding coolly before gracing the rest of the team with a warmer smile. Hale is a visitor to Stiles' ship; Stiles should be the one making the introductions and not Lydia. "I thought you were supposed to arrive at 1600." "It's 1602," Hale says as the furrow between his brow grows deeper. Given the time it takes for him to re-acclimate after a sim, Stiles is pretty sure he'd exited the module before 1600. He glances at the badge that's clipped to Hale's chest pocket; it's a fancy one with both matrix and biologic scanners, the kind someone has when they are high-ranking enough to require multiple security clearances at important places like the Capitol. "It takes longer than two minutes to clear our security systems and reach our training room. How long have you been here?" "Long enough to know that the use of an incendiary grenade in that environment was foolhardy at best." Stiles' jaw drops. He probably looks like a gaping fish, but really? "Excuse me?" he says, taking a step closer to Hale as Scott groans.

Hi!!! This was initially supposed to be a wee little thing for you. Something inspired by a really gorgeous Moulin Rouge art piece I recently saw. My muse kind of leaned into those vibes and decided to spit out a Beast of a fic instead.

Since you asked for soulmates, the Red String of Fate, angst with a happy ending, fluff and Pack Feels, that's what I ran with. I hope you're cool with what I have so far (since the build up will take us to Part 2, which will be posted up just after Christmas). Hang tight, and you'll get to punch and then hug our two favorite idiots afterward.

This is a story about love. My soulmate didn’t know We were destined to be together.

Then again, neither did I.

Stiles is a romantic. He always has been. Love is what runs through his very veins. Or at least the pure idea of it does.

He’d pined for Lydia Martin until she finally gave him the time of day. That was when they both realized they work so much better as friends.

Caitlin will always be the exception, as someone Stiles knew since they were in diapers. What could have been—well, he tries not to dwell on that too much after things tragically ended.
