Really good question. I don't know! Ice cream for us is lighter and higher in fat. Gelato is denser and comes in lots of unique flavors. Italian Ice is sorbet with no dairy products. It seems to be a regional thing here in the US. In the South we called it sorbet or "water ice."

...well, one of my best friends is having a birthday party on Friday and I offered him that some of his guests can spend the night at my place (if you know what I mean). He needed a pretty long time to reply and that was the moment when I wrote that post. ^^
