I just realised that came across like I wanted free art. I'm sorry, I just like coffee and books, and you like dragons, and I just thought a dragon who hoarded books would've been a neat idea. o.o
No, no, it's ok, you're fine! I didn't interpret it that way at all! I think this is probably a good time to establish a bit of a boundary with folks though, since this reminded me lol.
I absolutely love getting and doing these kinds of requests (for everyone else, this person suggested in another ask that I draw a dragon with coffee and books). I think they're a lot of fun and really good for when I'm feeling a bit creatively stuck!
I do commissions too, but I treat them really differently. With these sorts of requests, you're giving me the creative freedom to do whatever I want with the request. I might do a big detailed drawing or a 5-minute doodle, I might do a full body image or a headshot, etc. I do them because they're fun, I'm not obligated to draw the request or do things a specific way or do them within a certain timeframe; they're just friendly suggestions that I might do if I have the time/energy.
With commissions though, I treat that as work (fun work I enjoy, but still work), it's my top priority and I'll make sure you are getting exactly what you want (or as close to it as I can get). I check in with you at every step to make sure we are on the same page, you're happy with the work and I'll try to do the piece in a timely manner.
If you've got something really specific in mind for your request or something that will inherently take a long time/a lot of effort to make (e.g. can you draw my character doing [x] with [other character from a piece of media]?) then a commission will probably be better for that! If you're ever not sure if something is too specific though, feel free to send me a message and ask! unless you're being a dick about it, I'm not going to get mad at people for not knowing exactly where that line is or being unsure! Just be respectful and you're all good!
TLDR: I love doing requests, but if you want something specific, or within a certain timeframe, that's where a commission would be better. Requests are light-hearted and fun things I might do occasionally in my spare time, so feel free to leave them any time! It just might take a while lol
