I love the ending of PS/SS when Dumbledore’s just droppin wisdom bombs everywhere. There’s just too many to quote! Just go reread it, it’s really good I promise

apologies for the hiatus this past week

I went to Disneyland for the first time! And as a grown-ass adult who has lived in California most of her life, this was both sad and a big deal.

However, you’ll be happy to know that as I didn’t have any Disney merch, I wore Hogwarts stuff most of the time and struck up plenty of conversations about Sorting Disney characters into Hogwarts Houses :D

And now back to our regularly scheduled Potter-reread :)

I’m really happy you’re confident and willing to take this risk, Hermione

But do you really think acing your exams is going to keep you from being expelled if you break a lot of school rules??

However, this does bring to light an important aspect of her character-- studying and being the top of her class really does give her confidence and power to do the right thing. Education is so empowering for her and I love it. It’s so fitting that she was a hat-stall between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, and ended up in Gryffindor.

I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with Harry’s perception here!

I mean think about it, Harry really doesn’t know the details of Voldemort’s regime at this point. What does Harry know about Voldemort’s regime at this point?

Voldemort was a ‘dark’ wizard and gaining power and followers

Voldemort killed a lot of people, including his parents, and tried to kill him

People were terrified to the point that they still won’t say his name

Dumbledore’s the only one Voldemort was ever afraid of

Voldemort hadn’t tried to take over the school when he was at the height of his power yet

But he doesn’t know the details of Voldemort’s prejudices, ideals, backstory, or motivations. Knowing that this is exactly what is beginning to happen in book 7--they were teaching dark arts at Hogwarts and Voldemort announced that Slytherin would be the only house to stay--I am impressed that Harry gathers the size of the issues he’s dealing with.
