Do you believe Ai parent death was accident ?
I don't think it was an accident (since accidents in mysteries rarely are what they're framed to be), but I'm not sure whether they commited suicide or whether they were killed as someone (like Vermouth) was trying to destroy all the research data.
If it's the former, then either a witness or Elena (through the recorded tape) is gonna have to reveal their suicide plan (maybe during Shiho's 19th birthday).
If it's the latter, then there will have to be a resolution with that person (i.e Vermouth), where we get the lab fire incident flashback through their perspective.
Thesis Update
I published my Thesis research data on Dataverse today! Now other students and researchers can access it and use it for their own work. 😊 I’m so happy to finally be able to share it!
Nature's 2017 PhD survey reveals that, despite many problems with doctoral programmes, PhD students are as committed as ever to pursuing research careers.
Science PhD students love what they do — but many also suffer for it. That's one of the top findings from Nature's survey of more than 5,700 doctoral students worldwide. Respondents indicated high levels of satisfaction with PhD programmes overall, but also revealed significant levels of worry and uncertainty: more than one-quarter listed mental health as an area of concern, and 45% of those (or 12% of all respondents) said that they had sought help for anxiety or depression caused by their PhD studies. Responses also uncovered a strong, perhaps crucial, connection between a well-matched PhD adviser and the student's success. Good mentorship was the main factor driving satisfaction levels. Most respondents were happy with their adviser, but nearly one-quarter said they would switch advisers if they could. Students can survive and thrive during a PhD programme — challenges and all — but they generally can't do it alone.
The US Department of Agriculture will no longer make lab inspection results and violations publicly available, citing privacy concerns.
The disappearance of information caught animal welfare groups by surprise. “I'm just flabbergasted,” says Eric Kleiman, a research consultant at the Animal Welfare Institute, an advocacy group in Washington DC. “This is not only the opposite of transparency, it takes us back to the Stone Age.”
But Matthew Bailey, president of the non-profit Foundation for Biomedical Research in Washington DC, says the move has some merit, because animal rights activists sometimes target scientists who use animals. “I would certainly agree that protection of personal information is of utmost importance, given the rich history of targeting individuals involved in animal research,” he says. But Bailey acknowledges that it will now be difficult for organizations like his to analyse trends in animal use in research.
Espinosa declined to answer questions about what triggered the decision, or whether input from business interests, such as the circus industry, or the 20 January resignation of agency head Michael Scuse were factors. She would not comment on whether the White House had a role in the move, but added that the USDA has “been reviewing and updating the information that is released to the public for the last year”.
Nature is an extremely prestigious scientific journal. This is not a drill.
How monitoring a remote Finnish peatland helps climate science
“In this photo, I’m inspecting the data-acquisition system installed at one of the five soil plots at the Siikaneva fen, a remote peatland located about 60 kilometres north of Tampere, in southern Finland. Fens, a kind of peatland fed by groundwater, cover nearly half of the total global peatland area and are important to study because fen ecosystems have the highest methane emissions among…
Are groundbreaking science discoveries becoming harder to find?
Russell Funk had no idea how much his work would strike a nerve. But then came a blizzard of news stories and supportive e-mails from hundreds of scientists — along with a critical backlash. Funk and his co-authors argued that scientific papers and patents had become less disruptive over time, by which they meant that fresh work was less likely to make previous articles obsolete. When they…
