A Moser Bible Feathursday

This week we present two exquisite, feathered wood engravings by printmaker, illustrator, book designer, and fine-press publisher Barry Moser. These original prints were actually produced from Resingrave, and are from Psalms 124 and 147 in Moser’s massive, two-volume tour de force The Holy Bible published in 1999 by his Pennyroyal Press in North Hatfield, Massachusetts, in an edition of 400 copies in full vellum hand-bound by Claudia Cohen and Sarah Creighton. Monday Motivation Owl

This Monday’s motivated owl is a Resingraving by printmaker, illustrator, book designer, and fine-press publisher Barry Moser from Psalm 104 in Moser’s massive, two-volume tour de force The Holy Bible published in 1999 by his Pennyroyal Press in North Hatfield, Massachusetts, in an edition of 400 copies.The print illustrates this passage from the Psalm:

You made the moon to mark the seasons,    and the sun knows when to go down.  You bring darkness, it becomes night,    and all the beasts of the forest prowl.

חג פורים שמח -- Chag Purim Sameach -- Happy Purim!

Purim begins with the Fast of Esther at sundown this evening. Shown here are the original wood engravings (actually Resingravings) by Barry Moser, and the beginning and ending texts, for the Book of Esther from Moser’s massive, 1999 Pennyroyal Caxton Press limited-edition printing of The Holy Bible. This 2-volume set was designed and fully illustrated by Barry Moser, with Galliard, Mantinia, & Mantinia Greek types and new decorative and typographic elements designed by MacArthur Award-wining type designer Matthew Carter. The publication was printed letterpress on custom-made Zerkall paper by Austin,Texas, master printer  Bradley Hutchinson in an edition of 400 copies. The edition was hand bound in full vellum at the combined Easthampton, Mass., workshops of Claudia Cohen and Sarah Creighton.
